Driving trainer in or near Montana?

Hi, looking for a reputable and kind driving trainer in or near Montana for my mother’s wonderful pony. She’s already broke in the harness and has driven twice, but I’m looking for someone to really get her going, as it’s not really my skill set. Edited to add that this would just be driving for pleasure, not competition. Thanks!!!

Found this for you.
A place to start.
Though it appears no Club in Montana, they may be able to suggest a member in the area.

You could also try the Beginning Carriage Driving group on Facebook, if you use FB. That’s where I found a local driving trainer. I’m in Colorado, so my trainer won’t be useful for you. But I see a lot of people all over the country getting hooked up with trainers in that group. There are also many local FB driving groups and might be one in your area. The group local to me is very active.

Thank you both! Would you be willing to PM me or let me know your trainer’s name in CO? Parts of CO are closer to me than some places in MT! Thanks again!

I’m not currently in touch with her (I stopped doing lessons with her–I was just doing it to have a chance to drive, since all my ponies have died off). She was planning on moving out of state, so I’d prefer not to pass her info on. But the other person I trained with is Denise Loewe, and she’s easy to find because last I saw she was president of the Rocky Mountain Carriage Club. And she would be closer as she trains around Fort Collins (where I live). The only disadvantage to Denise is that she goes to Florida for the winter. I loved both trainers I worked with, but the other one was an hour south of me, which got to be too much).

Took me a while to remember the name of the trainer! Alex and Kayo Fraser run the Fraser School of Driving. Not sure if they are handy to your location, but perhaps they can get the pony going safely and give her some lessons to work with the pony after training. The Frasers have been in business for a long time, are well spoken of by other people who have used them. Give them a call to see if they might work for you.

I don’t know any others in that region (big, multi-State) who do pleasure carriage driving training of equines or drivers. They could be out there, I just don’t know them! Ha ha Checking the ADS website for Trainers is a good idea.

She doesn’t start horses to drive, so not an option, but she does have a person in Iowa that starts horses that she has recommended to a few people, if that’s an option

Thanks for mentioning that, as I didn’t know she didn’t start horses to drive.

Yes properly starting horses is an investment in a lot of equipment plus you really need an extra very experienced person (or two) to make it the safest, best experience for the equine (and the people lol) so I totally understand why very few people do it.
