Hi,
i am possibly looking for a driving trainer to send a horse to to learn the basics and also teach me, depending on if they feel this horse is a suitable candidate. Would prefer they be in the northern Virginia area or in Maryland. TIA
A few simple questions:
What breed of horse?
Age?
Do you know how to drive?
Do you have any driving equipment and tack?
TB, 12. Nope, no experience. I will buy equipment as soon as I know what size cart to get. It’s something I want to do for fun, not because I plan on competing so I understand that may make it hard to find a trainer. He is a level headed, big horse.
Wait on buyng equipment. Find the Trainer, take driving lessons, use their stuff to learn if your horse WILL drive, before investing. Some horses just don’t have the mind for it, regardless of breed, calm accepting actions under saddle. Trainer can probably help you locate needed equipment when horse is ready.
Sounds good to me! Now to find a trainer
I’ve heard great things about Tracey Morgan in Poolesville, MD. Her email is gemmapony@aol.com but it also looks like she’s active on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Trac…00009608420987
Bio here: https://www.uset.org/team-usa/tracey-morgan/. Despite the impressive competition bio, she does also teach recreational-only drivers.
Tracy is excellent!
Tracey was an excellent clinician here. She did not miss anything, had numerous ideas, exercises, for improving whatever you were working on in our lessons. I wioud certainly recommend her for lessons and as a trainer.
Thank you everyone! I will contact her soon
Tracey Morgan is a great choice! Just saw her at GMHA on the weekend in Vermont
