In an article about the upcoming ottb show and the addition of the foxhunting class they mentioned “drop a rail” as something that the riders will do. What does that entail?
I am assuming that is meant to mimic dropping a rider on a coop. If you are meant to do it without getting off the horse then it would best be accomplished using a hunt whip. Lowering the hunt whip, handle down, to snag the rail, lift it off its mooring and lower it down next to the jump.
Wow, that would take some practice! Thanks
If you have post and rail fences in your country, it is done in a similar manner as described above, just slipped from between the posts to make the jump more inviting. The hunt whip/crop would have an antler end, not a knotty end.
In the class mentioned, I bet you lift one end of the rail from its cup and set it down…without dismounting (voluntarily or involuntarily).
