Looking for a lousy dry cat food to free feed my two when the cat sitter is unavailable. My previous two had a flavor that they would eat, but weren’t fond of, so it was ideal. These two, especially Chubby, will eat anything.
My cats think the Natural Balance Fat Cat food is shit. They turn over the bowl and walk away.
Any over the counter urinary tract health food, literally any of them. Got some when my Maine Coon was struggling with a major UTI (he was also on vet prescribed meds) and dude went from already 18 pounds (usually 23) to 13 pounds in a month and a half. Between feeling like crap and haaaaaaaating the food, he wasn’t eating enough, plus it was low-cal.
I can tell you what not to buy - I have yet to find a cat that does not love Purina One Hairball formula.
No idea why it is so good, but even my fussiest barn cat loves it.
Whatever they loved in a 3lb bag, the second I opened the 15lb bag.
hahahaha this times 100
I can free feed Purina One Sensitive Stomach Turkey dry food and have zero fatties. I think it’s claimed “sensitive stomach” works because they only mediocrely like it, not love it and they don’t gorge themselves into barfing lol
Thanks for the suggestions! If only cat food came in sample sizes…
@trubandloki - their usual is Purina Indoor Hairball - at least it’s relatively low cal.
mine eat as if they like it-then I buy another bag-nope nope nope don’t like that at all. Right now, I feel like I am going to force feed them. If they ate it last week, why not now? And cat food isn’t cheap. I am just buying small bags because I hate leftover cat food.
I have one like that with with wet food. There is no rhyme or reason to her whims. One day she loves fish, the next day she hates it. Some days I put half a can in the frig because the Princess literally turns her nose up & leaves, only to have her wolf it down cold 12 hours later.
However, I have yet to find a dry food that they hate. I did just request coupons from Natural Balance. This will be great - I’m returning this cat food because my cats like it.
Anything healthy. Seriously.
BUT> I just bought a small baq of the Blue cat food and Baler and Jack are snarfing it up.
Go figure.
Lol totally this.
This. I learned my lesson quickly.
I think my kitties get tired of eating the same food all the time.
over the many years I have tried EVERYTHING. Mostly they happily ate friskees for many years, then, (at the opening of a new bag,) we don’t want that anymore. I wen thru that with canned too. So I buy single cans till I find something they will actually eat. They quit eating blue, so I switched to American something from chewy. Chewy will refund my money, but I simply can’t keep telling them they won’t eat this stuff. I have reluctantly opened a bag of Beyond, and they are cautiously nibbling on that. The other is in the their bowl, and will stay there.
My sister is desperately poor, and yet she feeds a colony and her 4 cats. She buys the cheapest stuff she can afford. Her cats have lived long lives, at least two have lived into their 20s. When I had Lark and Muff, I fed them Meow Mix which they willingly ate. They lived to be 18 and 19 years old. Haven’t had any live that long since then, on better food.
The cheap bag of indoor formula from HEB.
My barn cats don’t like Kit 'N Kaboodle. They love any other cheap brand of food, even including Walmart’s “Special Kitty” but turned their noses up at Kit N Kaboodle.
I sidetracked a bit on Chewy today and found this that might work and you don’t have to change foods.
I ordered one for my barn kitties. https://www.chewy.com/petlibro-air-automatic-dog-cat-bowl/dp/1017158?
Mine, too. Even the outside cats would not eat it. Or the raccoons. They all acted like I had just given them poison or served them a bowl of cobras.
I think Purina One of any type is kitty crack.
What about a timed feeder that releases a set amount of food at regular intervals such as this (random example - there are a lot of choices)
