Dry skin doggie

Hello everyone. I have a 10 1/2 year old male German Shepherd Dog, last Summer he suffered with dry skin issues, so hoping to get a jump on it, I’ve been giving him cod liver oil for several months. I have tried various different products through the years, haven’t really seen much change.
What have you used with success? Thanks in advance!

Coconut oil all the way. It’s reduced my GSDs itching by at least 70%. She still itches, but she’s not waking me up in the middle of the night or rubbing her snoot on the carpet and furniture.

Welactin. And GOOD quality dogfood! If corn, soy and some form of pea/pea protein are in the first five ingredients, you’re probably gonna have skin and coat issues.

THIS.

The food we feed is so super important.

If switching to a homemade fresh, raw or freeze dried raw option is not availble to you, you can add a can (depending on the size of the dog) weekly of sardines, mackeral, etc in his food. I get packed in water or olive oil fish from Aldi for like a buck a piece.

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. I appreciate it!
I do feed a quality grain free dog food, and fed raw for years, didn’t really seem to make much difference unfortunately.
I don’t know what welactin is. Will google it and find out.

Some of the time, it about the protein used. Some proteins can cause dry skin. My one dog can’t eat; chicken, venison or lamb due to this. But he can eat, pork, beef/buffalo, kangaroo, all sorts of fish and seafood, rabbit and turkey.
