Dubarry Boots Sizing

I have decided to purchase a pair of Dubarry boots. I’m a bit amazed that I’ve finally come to this decision, but then again it has taken me a few years of thought.

Anywho, I have been reading some reviews and there’s some conflicting opinions about the sizing. Some suggest that the calf runs narrow while others say that there’s plenty of room. Some say that the sizing runs large and others say it’s smaller. While I find this a bit funny I do want to know how the sizing actually runs. If I consistently wear a size 9 shoe what size Dubarry boot should I order?

What everyone seems to agree on is that they do not regret buying their Dubarry boots. It makes for extra justification in buying my own pair.

Oh, and while we’re discussing them, what products do you use to maintain your Dubarry’s?

I just saw the Longford’s and am now debating between the Longford’s and Galway’s…what do COTHers think of the two?

I went ahead and ordered the equivalent of a size 9 in the Galway. I liked the overall look of them a little better for me, though I bet the Longford’s are quite nice as well. I also ordered care products and a boot bag for the boots. I’m looking forward to trying them on in about a week.

We just got some for our daughter, who has been pining for Dubarrys for about 3 years. Opened the box and we were not excited. Tried to put on the boots and were less excited. They are very tight in the instep. The calf is very wide and straight. The heel is very low. The boots went back! She got 2 pairs of very nice, very comfy boots for the same price as one pair of Dubarrys…

I tried them on before buying. I normally wear a 9-1/2 to 10, depending, and ended up with size 7-1/2 / EU 41.5 boots. One word of caution is that they recommend swapping out the original (fairly hard, flat) footbed for a cushier liner. That was enough to take my boots from perfect to tight, though they’ve loosened up with time. My calf is measuring just over 15 inches in jeans, and I have tons of room inside the boots.

I had to go up half a size, mostly because the calf was too tight. Otherwise I love mine.

A boot bag for Dubarry boots? LOL, mine stay way too dirty for a bag.

My goal is to rinse them clean and smear conditioner on them every week or so.

But, I am on my second pair. I love them for how waterproof they are.

I had originally tried 38, but that was too small, even though that is what fit me in Mountain Horse, so I got 39. That is what my second pair is as well.

I’ll need to go look, but I think my new Tredstep Donatellla boots are a 38.

Update

After scouting out the sizing on the Dubarry website and Smartpak, plus some random googling, I ordered the size 9 equivalent and then waited impatiently.

They fit pretty well. My right foot felt slightly off somehow, but to go up a size would be too big so I kept them and interestingly enough, they seem to be just fine after wearing them a bit. I have worn them to the barn, to Costco, to dinner, and to work. They seem to fit right in here in Colorado, especially in the fall. They are also faster to pull on than tennis shoes when I go to take my dog for a walk.

I’m quite happy I purchased them and have no regrets.

I wear an 8.5 BUT my calf is 16". Recommendations?

Dubarry makes an ExtraFit boot for wider calves. It might be too big for your calves (and doesn’t come in all the other colors besides Walnut), but there is a size chart for the boots on SmartPak.

I have been wearing Dubarry’s for a number of years and found that the Galways always had plenty of room in the foot and the calf (good thing for my winter socks) and the fit gets better after a week or so and the Longfords (I got from my fab other half this year xx) hold my foot a little more but still have space for socks. Both are super comfy and my Galways are ages old now. What I’m really after now is their goretex quilt!!! (It’s the behan size 38 in navy if my hubby is reading this!!!)
