Dubarry vs Dublin vs Shire

Are the Dubarry’s really worth the money or are the knock offs okay? Opinions…?

I have Dublins, love them, but they only were waterproof for a year. BUT I didn’t clean them often, I think I only did twice, so could be my own fault. I still wear them ALL the time, absolutely love them.

I love Dubarry. But I do a lot of slogging around on my own farm and my Dublins have been great (even great at Rolex which was disgustingly wet). If I were a boarder, I would not be opposed to showing up in my fancy Dubarrys. I think I’d have a stroke spending the money and abusing them like I do.

I wear mine EVERY DAY. My only complaint is I have a high instep so I had to buy extra wide and a 1/2 size up. They do not have pulls on them so the first few times were a struggle. I got this pair at Christmas and love love love them.

My Dubarry’s are 11 years old and going strong, fully waterproof still. I wore them for everything from working around the barn, hacking, bathing horses, walking the course at Rolex KY, going to work in a NYC law firm and in the snow and rain! I wear them with sportswear just because they are attractive and I like the way they look. I think they are worth every penny. But there have been numerous discussions on this same topic, including very recently, so you would be best off doing a search. I think the biggest difference is the Goretex lining in Dubarrys, which makes them fully breathable and cool and comfy even in steamy hot July summers. Dublins used to advertise that only the foot is fully waterproof, the rest is water resistant, I don’t know if that is still the case or not.

I just bought a pair of Dubarry’s a few months ago and I absolutely LOVE them. They are completely waterproof (not just in the foot) and were perfect for cold winter days. I looked at Dublin boots but unfortunately couldn’t find an option for my wide feet/wide calf.

The only complaint I have with my Dubarry’s is that they scuff very easily. The toe on my boots have scuffed up pretty significantly from just normal wear and tear. I have yet to find something to buff out the scuff. However, since its just cosmetic, I’m not too worried about it.

I don’t remember scuffing being a problem but maybe that is because I use the Dubarry products to clean/condition. You can buy them on the website, although Dubarry sent me two tubes for free. You want the product in the navy blue tube, its important to keep the creases in the foot well conditioned so they don’t crack and allow water in.

my dubarrys are 10 years old, never cleaned them with any of the special products. Slapped some Obenauf’s on them maybe 2 years ago, no cracking anywhere. Still waterproof when I stood in the Land Rover water at rolex this weekend.

I tried on new ones, but I just couldn’t justify the price for the quality now. They aren’t the same at all. That being said, I just ordered a navy/brown pair from Cabotswood in the UK to replace mine with, even though they’re fine, they are looking a bit beat up.

I have a pair of Dublins that I like. I have worn my daughter’s Dubarrys on occasion. I think they are all fairly nice boots - just depends if you can or want to pay the premium for the Goretex lining and the Dubarry name.

Just looked up the Cabotswood and they look really interesting! Would you mind posting photos of the actual boots? I am needing to replace my Dubarry’s that I have had for 10+ years that are now cracked in the foot crease, but the new ones just don’t seem to be the same quality :frowning:

Oh my god I want this boot.

If anyone needs an enabler, the Cabotswood page has a sample/seconds page. Half price. Most work out around $110 US after shipping.

I already have my eye on those! Although, it looks like the regular already runs narrower than the Dubarry so I’m not sure if I can squeeze my legs + winter layers into their slim fits since all the navy regular calf ones are huge sizes.

I was double checking that sizing because it didn’t make any sense to me. At a size 10 (usually european size 42 or so) I’m usually at the far end of available sizes. I’ve never seen anything offered in a 46!

And yes, their regular fit is quite slim it seems.

I have Dublin Rivers that I absolutely love. I’ve had them…3.5 years I think? Still look great, still waterproof. My only complaint is that they’ve become uncomfortable if I wear them for more than a couple hours at a time. I’m not sure if I’ve just worn down the insoles or what. They’re fine for the first couple of hours (a trip into town, riding, etc). But if I wear them all day, my feet are ACHING and tender, bad news bears. Must take a trip to my cobbler and see if he can help me out.

I recently got the Ovation Rhona (http://www.amazon.com/Ovation-Womens-Rhona-Country-Brown/dp/B008I1GCR8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462296807&sr=8-1&keywords=ovation+rhona) and I really like them. They are comfortable and so far they are waterproof, but I haven’t really tested them. I didn’t like the Dublin’s. I have big feet and I felt like they would be clunky and make my feet look huge. The Ovations foot is a bit slimmer. The leg opening is a little wide for me, but I can work with that for less than half the price of Dubarrys!

I tried on a pair of Dubarrys last year and I wasn’t impressed. They felt like I was wearing a cheap pair of rubber boots. Has anyone else felt this way? Everyone raves about how comfortable they are but I didn’t get it. Maybe they need to break in?

My Dubarry’s are 6 years old and I wear them a lot in winter. I don’t clean mine regularly and they are still totally waterproof, no cracking, yet anyway. I adore them and wear them more in winter than anything else I own. I don’t know what I will do when I need to replace them but for now they are worth every penny I paid for them.

Can anyone with new Dubarry’s (within the last couple of years) confirm what the product tag says in terms of where they are made? TIA!

I have the Dublins. They just finished their third winter, and aren’t as waterproof anymore. I can still walk the dogs and cats on a rainy day or dewy morning and not get soaked through, but I don’t know if they would be much use on a really gross, snowy outing. They are comfortable, though I personally don’t love wearing them all day (I would be barefoot or at least in flip flops if I could, my go-tos for every day mucking around is an ancient pair of Chucks). They’re just heavy for my personal taste.

The Dubarrys are, no doubt about it, fabulous boots. That being said, I’ve watched a friend deal with them on TWO pairs of faulty boots, and their customer service was HORRIBLE. I really feel that when you spend that much on a pair of boots, you better get excellent care when something goes wrong.

I’ve had my hands on the Shire’s and I like them. I love the zipper. Not sure how they compare, but they feel nice and are comfy.

I just recently sent a pair of Dubarrys back to be repaired under warranty (1 year from date of purchase). They were received by Dubarry on Monday 4/25 with a copy of the receipt and a note of the problem and UPS delivered new pair on Friday 4/29. For a minor repair. No questions asked, no hassles. I’m so sorry that your friend had problems.

Denzel–I’ll check my box when I get home. Just checked my new boots and location of manufacture is not on them unless it is down in the foot bed somewhere.

Dubarrys! Hands down worth the money! I saved up my pennies for a pair and after I got them I realized how silly I was for waiting so long. They are amazing in rain and snow and everything in between! And I kind of like the “scuff” marks they get over time… its like a badge of honor
