•Duchenne muscular dystrophy and riding for therapy

Does anyone have success stories about riding helping their children or kids they know of?

Do it. There is nothing you can loose.

From the duchenne’s boys that I know, riding is great for confidence and an alternate source of fresh air and excercise. It does not appear to slow the muscular degeneration. I guess if it was started fairly young, boys would develop some useful balance management techniques.

Riding would give all the same advantages to MD boys as it does to any child with a disability which reduces leg strength and mobility. It increases their height, gives them another way of getting around and is generally fun. Their ability to ride independantly does decrease as the disease progresses and core muscles are affected.
