Although this isn’t exactly a foxhunting question, I’ve found more threads about the Duett saddles here than on other boards. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the quality of the leather used on the Duett saddles. Things like, does it soften up, does it scratch easily, does it lose its dye easily, etc. I haven’t been able to find many used Duetts, specifically the Presto or Allegro, therefore not finding pictures of what they come to look like after being used. If anyone could post pictures of their saddle that would also be oh so greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all of your wisdom.
The brown leather is YUMMY. Soft, darkens nicely. Scratches buff out.
You don’t find many used because people hang on to them.
The black leather on the Rondo is grained, thick and very long wearing, but pretty slick. The seat is softer. I have not seen the black leather on any of the other dressage models. Only seen a Presto, Rondo II, Rondo III and Foxhunter/companion.
I’ve ridden in a very well used–more like abused–Rondo III (the brown leather) and it felt and looked pretty good. It was darker under the stirrup leathers and the bottom of the flap, but I think with even adequate care it would’ve looked better.
The brown colour on some of the jumping models is gorgeous reddish brown like the old original Stubben Siegfrieds. I think at least one of them now also comes in a darker, more havanna brown.
