Any one ride in one/own one? If so, what are your opinions of them concerning fit, comfort, quality, customer service and price. I am saddle shopping and want some feed back before I get one in on trial.

Search this forum. LOTS of posts about them. Well suited to the wide horse, not always suited to the very flat/short back. Excellent quality for the $$ in my opinion.

I have a horse with a flat/short back. I was trying to get a saddle on a budget and the Duett was the ONLY thing I could get that would fit him in the under 1500 range (yes, I looked used- most extra wide trees were not wide enough, and he needed a hoop tree).
I was injured and had way too much time to sit at home and think about saddle fit, so I ended up buying a used Schleese and having it custom fit. It’s a much, much better fit on him. But, even used, it cost twice as much as the Duett once I trailered him to the fitting and bought a really expensive girth :p.
Also, as Roan and I have discovered, it’s not a good saddle for people with long thighs/legs. Once I started riding in the Schleese, I realized how bad my position was in the Duett.
BUT- it’s a very nice saddle, and it isn’t $3,000. If you think any of these issues apply to you, talk to Roan- she ended up with an Ansur treeless and loves it.
My friend has one. It’s a nice saddle for the money. It’s the most comfortable saddle I’ve ever ridden in. She has the “fidelio.” Duett was great to work with as far as having them send saddles to try; you deal direct with the owner. I wish I could buy one for my narrow TB!
Duetts are fantastic saddles, and Nancy is wonderful to work with. I bought my Largo in January 07, and it still looks brand new. Love these saddles!

Which model did you have and in what way was it not good for you leg/position? Do you feel that it was not well balanced? If so, was it because of fit or that the saddle it’s self is not well balanced? (ie stirrup bars to far fwd…???)
I tried the Fidelio and the Largo on my uber wide, flat-backed and hefty shouldered draft cross. Although fairly comfortable and well made I just couldn’t get a decent fit for either of us. I tried a 36, 38 and 40 cm tree on her with no avail. I have tried a variety of different types of saddles on this mare. Prestige, Stubben, Black Country, Kieffer. I ended up with a Legacy Comfort in their XW #5 tree. It fits her beautifully and I feel pretty darn good in it myself.
For the price the Duetts are very nice. But each horse is so unique in their respective conformation and build it is difficult to find just one brand that will fit the wide horse. They are certainly worth trying though. You may really like them and get a good fit. I just wasn’t as lucky.
Thanks! My horse is not super wide but I am having a difficult time finding an affordable saddle that fits him and me. Seems like I can find one or the other but not both. He has a very wide wither and spine so needs a wide gullet but not necessarily a super wide tree, just wide.

I have one and it was an excellent saddle for me overall. The saddle is well balanced but I wound up needing a saddle with a bigger seat and knee-wedges instead of long blocks. It worked out for me for a couple years but now that we are starting working on 2nd/3rd I really needed a saddle the fit my conformation better. I do really like the saddle though and a better fit cost us around the 5k mark.

I have a Duett Largo (36 cm) which works really well for me and our XW draft cross mare. I also tried a 38 cm Fidelio and it was too narrow.
I am also quite long-legged (5’11", 35" inseam) and it fits me quite well. I got the 19" seat - they run small. Trainer really likes it for me (and for her too).

Been busy and missed this thread.
I DO love the Duett for comfort and it fits my Lipizzaner very well, however I found that it threw me forward onto her forehand and I was struggling to get my seat bones to stay under me correctly.
When Ambrey and I refer to long thighs, we mean that we are not necessarily long-legged, but our thigh-bones are way longer than average. I’m 5’ 4" (just barely) but my femur is 19.5" long. Most people my height have a 15" femur.
A larger seat in the Duett may or may not have helped with the problem, but it’s not something I really wanted to try.
I still have the Duett and my husband LOVES it. He’s about the same height as me, but he has shorter thighs. It does not throw him forward at all and he sits really well in it. If this saddle doesn’t fit HIS Lipizzaner (he wants to buy his own either next year or the year after), then he wants to get another Duett.
I recently bought an Ansur and it has been heaven for me.

I am selling my Duett Fidelio right now on ebay lol…I loved the saddle, it was a great quality and super comfortable to ride in. Unfortunately it is too wide for my horse so I have gone with a Schleese, but had the Duett been the right ‘fit’ for my mare, I would have been very happy to have kept it!
