dumb breeding questions from a newbie

Just to reiterate my main reason - getting a conformation title on a popular breed like Golden Retriever or Lab in my area might run as high as $20K or more. In my region, it takes 19 Golden bitches to make a 3 point major; and I heard the counts are going up. Very few people show Goldens without a professional handler because it’s so competitive.

For a pet - this $20K title is not necessary (x 2 – both sire & dam). A puppy bred from obedience-titled dogs, with health clearances might be a much more appropriate choice for a family if they want a well-bred purebred pet.
