OMG you win the internet today - the 5% breed is CHOW!!

Mia did have a random black spot on her tongue
no idea if that was truly related but we used to joke it was her one Chow gene being expressed.

We had a Norwegian Elkhound, but there are not many of those.
American Eskimo? They are too light a dog.
Samoyed? Not large enough.

Those are square dogs, this one has length to that body.

the final breed was Keeshond. :woman_shrugging:

the size was about right and the agouti color. the breed standard says: “well ribbed, barrel well rounded, short in loin, belly moderately tucked up, deep and strong of chest.” so i can see that somewhat fitting as well. but never would have guessed it!

DANG IT!!! I almost said Keeshond!

She was 100% super cute and a very good girl and that is all that matters at the end of the day.

What an interesting stew of breeds your lovely dog is!

The “necklace” marking works, although your girl has a shorter coat.

She really is a beautiful dog

Embark results came back. And I am shocked. :open_mouth:. Tiger is 100% a single breed. This is my third time “embarking” a ditch dog. NEVER have they come back one breed. The others were 5 and 7 breeds.
Any guesses?

American Pit bull terrier. Pure bred. Which is so weird because he is not block headed. His snout is more shepherd like. Seems to have low low low prey drive and is leggy and deep chested and tiny waisted with longish legs given his size. He is also a talker. Roooos like and hound and then talks and talks without barking like one.

I’ll be honest I told myself I would not have a APBT due to past experiences. I know there are sweet ones out there but my goodness when things are not they tend to be a real fustercluck. And to add I am quite sure he was very mistreated. It took a good while before he believed I wasn’t going to hit him with my hands or if I grabbed a broom or a manure fork and carried it past him. And the old dislocated elbow that has caused the permanent limp is very telling. And SOMEHOW he has remained goofy and loving and hopeful.

He will become a good dog. He is well on his way. Vet had a personal emergency come up and pushed back all surgeries two weeks. So he doesn’t lose his balls until Feb 14th. Which is kind of fitting lol. On Valentines Day.

OMG! I almost joined in on this thread with my guess but have just been reading along.

Several years ago, I adopted a “boxer mix” from the pound. Your tiger/tigger reminds me SO much of him. Except he wasn’t brindle. But the face and actions and he was also the goodest boy thing to the nines.

I did the dna test for both dogs I had at the time. The other dog was out of a pure bread golden and father was out of pure bred lab on one side and pure bred hound of some sort on the other. Anyhow, that one came back with dozens of breeds.

This “boxer mix” dog though? 99.something% American Staffordshire. They didn’t even list any other breed.

My ‘all pit bulls must be wiped from the face of the earth’ friends who had already fell in love with him were divided into two groups. One side who said dna tests were not trustworthy and wrong; the other who were convinced he was going to rip my face off while I slept. The dog didn’t change, but their attitude about him sure did.

Anyhow, he never ripped my face off and was the best dog I ever owned. I miss him. I hope you have as many if not more wonderful memories and years with your pup as I did with mine.

Thanks for sharing.

Edit to add: I think something happened to mine with a hose. It was years before I could touch the hose without him getting panicked.

I was thinking a pit bull mix for him all along, but didn’t want to dash your hopes for something else. It’s often my first go-to for brindle coloring, and he does have pit head characteristics, but definitely not as much as most purebreds. I would have expected a mix. I frequent the doggyDNA subreddit, and have gotten pretty good at my predictions.

I did Embark on two dogs. One I expected to be 25% pit bull, 25% lab, and have at least two other breeds. The other one I expected GSD and hound, and didn’t expect any pit bull. Well, of course, the first dog didn’t end up with any pit bull or lab, but was 30% boxer (along with golden retriever, great pyrenees, rottweiler and Boston terrier). The other one ended up with 20% pit bull (along with larger percentages of GSD, coonhound, bloodhound and smaller amounts of lab and supermutt).

I hope Tiger can be as good a dog as you describe yours! Sounds like a true gem.. I have so many reservations about APBT’s. Mostly the insane prey drive. And the unpredictability. But this sweet boy has proven over and over again that he just needs you to show him what you expect. He’s so loving. To chickens and cats and my other dogs and my horses. And when he does misstep he is easily corrected with your words. He seems to expect a STRONG response. A beating. Manhandling. He learns really quickly. Gets things in one or two tries and looooves consistency so much.

Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your story.

Look at your lovelies!!! They’re beautiful! Yes it’s pretty hard to find a ditch dog in Florida that doesn’t have some mix of PB in it. My other two are 50% and 25%. Thank you for sharing your dogs. I  them.

I would have sworn for Tiger a mix of Catahoula, maybe Plott hound or black mouthed Curr and boxer perhaps greyhound and a dash or more of bully breed. But nope 100% APBT.

Oh my I’ve been checking this thread over and over waiting for those results! How funny you got yourself a purebred! As much as they can be anyway. He can be an ambassador for his breed; I’ve known a few pitties that were absolutely perfect dogs in every way.

Amen! From your mouth to the universe’s ears! I sincerely hope he squashes the typical PB stereotype. Thank you for weighing in. I really appreciate it.

Okay @MunchingonHay we wait with bated breath for Lilly’s results! You’re not far behind!
