Dumped Dog Please Reassure Me We Are Doing The Right Thing. EMBARK RESULTS ARE BACK!

My thoughts too. thank you for weighing in !

I am not a fan of these dogs but he really doesn’t fit the personality or body build. Maybe he takes after his ancestors as they used several Terrier breeds to develop the Pit Bulls we see so much today ( i looked it up).

No matter --he is his own person and so far he is a good dog and I have no reason to think that will change.

I think my In -Laws stray they took in years ago has some pit bull in him but he is a total love bug but we watch him around the farm animals just because he came here as an adult and we are taking no chances.
His head and body build are like your Tiger. He may be all Pit Bull as well who knows?

Yes! I’m of the same mind. Thank you for your thoughts. I really appreciate it! I’ll be honest … I am not a ABPT fan. I realize there are APBTs that are lovely dogs but there are many that ARE NOT… despite careful stewardship. Tiger seems to be a good egg. And for that, I am grateful.

I got an email stating that Lilly’s sample is in the extracting step! only 1-3 weeks left !! LOL

Tiger’s seemed so much quicker.

I think it was less than a week after I got the “extracting” email that Tiger’s results came back. Can’t wait for Lilly’s!

Well on Valentine’s Day Tiger :tiger2: got neutered.
:no_entry_sign::peanuts::tiger2:
He got micro chipped and nails cut short and his elbow and shoulder xrayed(more on that later. Poor boy)
He came home late today. He’s doing great. Was so happy to see his familiar humans…… he willingly went into the vet yesterday, but he seemed genuinely surprised that someone came back for him lol. Probably me just anthropomorphizing. But he crawled in my lap on the trip home and stared in my eyes like I didn’t think you were coming back lady.
Anyway it’s been a while since I had a male dog neutered. my last one they took his entire scrotum and testicles. Tiger, has a rather large empty coin purse left behind. What has everyone else’s experience been with neutering intact fully descended dogs?

I think animals understand being away from their herd (horses sure do), so I am sure Tiger was thrilled to see you! Hope you will share the xrays when you are ready to post about that.

Normally the saggy leftover scrotum will shrink pretty impressively after things calm and heal from the surgery. Otherwise, there are always neuticals.

Nooooooo! No neuticles!!! I think balls are useless in the dogs I wish to own. It was weird when I picked him up. Never talked to the vet. I will follow up next week and get copies of the x-rays. Basically someone horribly dislocated his elbow and damaged his shoulder months and months ago and it healed on its own And he will have a permanent limp She is recommending rehabilitation, but it’s been almost probably nine months since it happened. I dont have thousands of dollars for rehab.
I just wanted to save this dog. It has cost me nearly $1000 to neuter him, vaccinate him and buy all of his heartworm medications. I have 4 other dogs. And 5 cats and 2 horses. This whole saving animals is becoming untenable.

I asked someone about the loose skin after neutering, and his answer was ‘it’s not cosmetic’ surgery. The excess skin shrinks and in a while you won’t even notice it.

Sounds like Tiger had a great spa day!

I am so sorry to hear about Tiger’s shoulder. People are horrible. I am so glad he has you to take care of him now. I do agree with you, the damage happened so long ago, how much rehab is going to help. I am sure there is a ton of scare tissue. Perhaps you can learn to do some massage strokes/techniques to help break up the scarring in the shoulder to help free up his ROM???

I do not have any experience with coin purses. All of my boy dogs were neutered before 6 months and my last male was neutered once he reached 4 lbs at the Humane Society where I got him from at 7 weeks old.

I got Silly Lilly’s Embark results back. Do you want me to start a spin off thread?

My big 2.5yo boy got neutered in December and I was dismayed at the large (black, on a white dog! Gack) coin purse left behind. It has shrunk a fair deal. I still think it’s gross though

Removing the contents and letting the skin shrink up is quite normal in my experience.

I am glad his surgery went well. I am sorry to hear his shoulder and elbow are going to be a maintenance issue.
I wonder if he got hit by a car while he was loose?

Like others have said, the loose skin shrinks and completely disappeared on both of the male dogs I’ve had that were neutered as adults (as opposed to puppies/adolescents).

In less than a year there won’t be any sign that he once had testicles!

It’s possible but vet said whatever happened was a while ago and the dog is under a year. She thinks he was picked up and flung by his leg. She said if he was hit by a car it would have been a dislocation also but as a result of being rolled up into the wheel well and wrenched. Bottom line is no treatment was done at the time of injury and he’s compensated.

The funny thing is it slows him down, not a bit. He has a pretty noticeable limp at the walk and trot. But when he runs, he’s like a little sports car and he can spin on a dime. He’s got these incredibly strong back legs and it’s like like he uses that messed up elbow as a walking stick and relies mostly on his back legs and his front, right He can jump three bales of hay high from a standstill or onto the kitchen table lol.

@MunchingonHay! I can’t wait please you can put it here post pictures again and then let’s have a big reveal!

Here she is in all of her glory; Silly Lilly. She is a product of an oops litter. We are in North Central PA if that helps.

Silly Lilly is 6.5 months old currently and a whooping 50 lbs she is roughly 22-23 inches at the wither. I got her at 3 months old weighing in at 16 pounds. (Buma the 100lb ridgeback for reference)

I do know what her mom is. The lady bred this breed as a hobby breeder. The lady let her unspade female out unsupervised and she got knocked up. I do know the breed the lady thinks is the daddy.

There was 7 in the litter. 3 of them were “silver” (that light, muted black color) they were all black with very little to no white. Lilly is/was the smallest of the litter. Lilly was free.

There are three breeds that make up her Embark DNA results.

I also did the health panel, she is clear on all varients that they check for associated with the breeds she is made up of.

What are your guess, and please either tag or reply to me so I can see what you guys think!

I’ll guess Golden and Pit.

@Mosey_2003, nope and nope.

@ThreeWishes, Yes to black lab. no pit, no hound.
Thank you for mentioning Buma, she was free too! Well, I paid a dollar for her. She was given to me by a former employer that I worked for back in 2003-05. He had to give her away due him moving into a highrise and she is very skittish.

Keep trying!
