The dude abides! (The Big Lebowski reference!)
My Great Dane slept that way as well but he usually had one foreleg sticking straight up.
His Great Dane lips would go inside out and he looked absolutely ridiculous.
He went upside down like that in the waiting room at the Vetâs office one time. It was a little embarrassing but I was glad that he loved the Vet and was comfortable there.
Oh, and @ThreeWishes, that was exactly how my Dane drank. A bowl was not satisfactory. No lapping of water for him, it had to be a full face dunk. Heâd come up for air and then go down again. I first noticed him doing this in the horses water.
I donât know if Danes are all like this, but he was a very proficient drooler as well.
Your beloved dog sounds like such a lovely boy.
What was his name? I have always coveted a Dane.
His "barn name " was Hercules (though we ended up calling him âde wumpâ.) His name was very grand compared to his goofball personality.
I loved him very much, but would never have another. Great Danes are very sweet and very short lived.
Heart breakers.
My pit mix sometimes dozes with his eyes half open and rolled back, and his lips pulled back. He looks like a zombie dog. Itâs a little freaky, TBH.
That reminds me of my ex. He would sleep with his eyes open sometimes. Your dog is a lot less creepy.
Sort of like this?? Our 11mo female Dane (with our elderly female Mountain Cur). She is, I can confirm, a total and complete weirdo.
Just like that, except one of his forelegs would stick straight up instead of forward like your lovely dog. Do her lips go inside out too?
He wasnât as modest as your girl with his hind legs. His were completely relaxed, if you know what I mean.
This reminds me of a woman who showed a Dachshund in obedience years ago. On the long down (when you used to leave your dog and go to the other side of the ring), she would give the command to âdownâ, her dog would roll over with its feet in the air, and stay like that the ENTIRE time of the exercise. Not until âreturn to your dogâ and âexercise finishedâ did the dog break to get back in the upright position.
Funny as heck, and the dog wasnât disqualified for it.
I can see it in my minds eye. Thatâs hilarious.
My childhood dog was a Dachshund and was the most mischievous dog that ever lived. I canât imagine her staying still for that long, unless she was sleeping.
Love all the doggie stories. I have never met a dog who wants a water spritz more than Tiger. He loves his baby pool and a proper hosing.

Does he ever get to go swimming like in a lake?
My rescued GSD loves the big lake near me. But now the water is getting too hot with daytime temps in the mid 90âs. So she
swims mostly in spring filled lakes. But she loves her kiddie pool also.
GO Tiger!!.
I havenât tried! Most of the lakes here in central Florida have gators so Iâm a little afraid. I bet he would loooove the beach!
Central Fl. here too!
My son, who takes Heidi to many, many lakes around here, says look for fish near shore or swim area. Usually fish scatter if a gator is around.
Also try springs area where loud people are swimming.
The beach? Heidi has been many times but isnât fond of the waves. Plus she swallows toooo
much saltwater and her appetite
is not good for several days.
Great tip! I think Tiger would have the same issue at the beach. Heâs a water chomper. The waves would fascinate him though. Iâd have to get him goggles and a snorkel lol
Donât do it! No lakes with gators!
What happens when you enter the area with fish and then they scatter? Noooo.
Oh you can find her in any number of bizarre poses on any given evening and yep she does the lip thing too Two other evidence pics from when she was a little younger. She is my first Dane, and while Iâve always wanted one, I had NO idea what I was getting myself into. That said, canât imagine life without her now.
He must be the cleanest dog in the world!
I love him! What a weirdo!
