lol! It’s weird right trying to integrate a new dog, especially a very young one into your existing pack. My old man is 14 mostly deaf and the very best boy. Tiger only wants to be near him. Oliver is the best tolerant boy and only corrects Tiger when he gets too rough in play. And Tiger immediately backs off. All Tiger wants is to be close to Oliver. Everyone is tired now. And I’m sitting here hoping this will all work. Seems to be thanks to my very kind dogs and Tiger’s ability to read the room.
His injury sounds like one my family’s Toy poodle got as a very
young-8-10 week old puppy.
Puppy jumped off someone’s lap
and broke her ankle. Vet casted it
but when the cast came off, the
foot slowly twisted to outside.
It remained twisted for the rest of her life.
I’d probably try to prevent your dog from doing much jumping and/or high impact activities.
Maybe your vet can suggest
bone healing supplement.
Ps/ Thanks so much for taking in this poor dog. He sure looks happy now.
That makes sense. It’s a little thicker at the inside of the ankle but it’s cold and hard. (The joint). I’m guessing if he did hurt his ankle as a puppy that nothing was done.
Maybe he needs a tiny Back on Track ankle brace like I have for my messed up joints. /s
Those things really do help
Remind me of the end goal here: I thought once he was gelded he would be your friend’s dog and companion to his spayed female?
Or is he going to be integrated into your pack?
Your dogs are giving him some valuable pack skills…ones he probably missed as a puppy. Either way, the time with your pack is giving him valuable life skills, should he need a new home in the future. You are setting him up for success: socialized, walks on a leash (with the correct harness), crate trained, good around livestock, neutered, etc. He is 100000000% better from the day you caught him.
The plan is to house him at my friends until he’s neutered and if my old dog likes him I’ll take him in. Tiger comes every day and on the weekend to get some freedom and socialization. I just owe it to my old dog to take care of his best interests first. Oliver is fading. It hurts me to even type that. I always planned to welcome a new dog when he was no longer here. The timing is just not right. Unless this dog (Tiger) works out with Oliver and is gentle enough with a deaf crotchety senior.
Edited to add. So far… Oliver is very patient and kind with Tiger. I want to move slowly. Friend does not need another dog really. He’s doing me a favor and will take Tiger if it doesn’t work with me.
I endorse this. That’s exactly why we aren’t getting another dog right now.
Thank you for the clarification! I do hope that it works out for everyone… particularly Tiger!
He actually took his female dog in when I found her 6 years ago. He drops her at the barn every weekend to play. His house is tiny with a small yard. I thankfully have been blessed with very tolerant dogs.
But in the past I’ve dealt with strays that were too far gone to integrate and things ended badly. It’s an epidemic here. People dumping dogs. They pick the rural areas and they’re never spayed or neutered. They’re generally heart worm positive and poorly poorly socialized.
Brindle for a brindle.
I hope that Tiger continues to be gentle with your pack; especially Oliver. I 100% understand about waiting to get an additional dog due to his current health. I was in the same boat 2 yrs ago. It was either get a puppy then… or wait until Riley left a space open. We waited.
I do love how his energy is low around Oliver. It comes through in the photo. He just wants to snuggle and make a brindle cuddle puddle.
Thank you !!! You understand completely. Tiger deserves a chance. With careful consideration for Oliver I can at least get him safe and cared for and hope for the best. If Tiger is too much for my old man he still has a safe landing. And I’ll do my best to give him space to run and grow. It’s been so
Long since I’ve had a puppy or rather a young dog. I forgot how much energy they have and frankly how much time and effort goes into teaching them how to be very good boys.
Today I’m working on introduction to barn cats! He’s a little too keen. He’s leashed and very excited. One step at a time.
Love to see these updates and hear that Tiger is doing so well! And it makes my heart swell to hear that he’s so good with Oliver. I have such a soft spot for the golden oldies.
Thank you! First vet appointment is Friday. Tiger continues to settle into his new life. He is currently lying at my feet being a very good boy.
Waiting for my friend to return.
PS I put out 3 dog beds but he insists on lying with Oliver.
This story has filled my heart with joy this Christmas season.
I know ! Right? Almost makes me want to give him a holiday themed name.
Lucky dog!
2 more days til vet appointment! Here’s Tiger enjoying my barn this afternoon. The high pitched puppy noise you hear is a neighbor 3 doors down who runs an Aussie Doodle breeding business. Christmas pups are screaming ! Makes me feel weird about all the unwanted dogs searching for homes. But she gets upwards of $3000 for a pup.
Anyway. Sweet Tiger. Feeling his oats.

Omg his little groans and howl are the best
Now there’ a happy doggo! You are definitely doing the right thing based off this video!
Thank you both. We are trying so hard! He let me cut another toenail today. I wake up in the middle of the night wondering what I got myself into … I don’t need another dog. Friend doesn’t either. But this is Tigers only chance. So we will make it work.
He’s adorable and will pay you back for your kindness every day!
