Dust free (or reduced dust) cat litter?

We currently use Scoop Away that we get at Costco in the massive bags. Prior to that we used the Arm & Hammer. Anyway Turbo kitten doesn’t appear to be picky and switched right over when we changed brands. Her litter box is in the walk in closet of the room hubby uses as an office, behind a baby gate so dogs can’t get to the “tasty treats” in said box. Hubby mentioned he is really getting tired of the dust from the litter gives off. It seems to spread over the entire office after awhile. The box does have a lid already.

SOOO is there a GOOD clumping cat litter that puts off less dust (it MUST clump… we clean the box out 1-2x/day)? I mentioned the “World’s Best” brand to him. I’ve heard it’s very good, a bit more expensive but seems to last a long time?

I’m giving the walnut litter from Blue Buffalo a try and so far, it seems to be very low dust. I am using the multi cat clumping. It doesn’t clump as hard as really good clay (Precious Cat Ultra) but clumps well enough. The smell has been very good so far–really just smells like freshly turned earth, even when it needs to be cleaned.

If you want to try a clay litter, I was happy with the Precious Cat Ultra (in the blue bag) for a very long time. Clumps well, minimal dust and smell is minimal. The only reason I’m trying the walnut is the ecological issues with the clay.

I still like the Arm and Hammer Natural Essentials, non clay, little scent and heavy enough that it’s not dusty and doesn’t get tracked easily all over the house (like some of the other natural litters I’ve tried, FelinePine and Swwheat Scoop). It clumps really well, not like a brick for urine, but you get an encrusted “ball,” that may break up if you really want it to. I clean my 4 boxes 1x/day for 3 cats (though they don’t use them much right now as they like their outdoor time).

I’ve found it at TSC and Walmart.

I liked the Blue Buffalo litter. No dust, decent clumping, and good odor control. I used to use the World’s Best cat litter but I found that the odor control was not the best. I clean the box every day but with that litter I was having to clean it every time she used it… too stinky otherwise!

I love EverClear, unscented. Excellent odor control (and none of that terrible perfume scent), low dust, clumps nicely.

Not clumping, not even clay, but Yesterday’s News gets my vote. Non-tracking, no dust, almost completely odour free and very absorbant. It may be worth a try

There’s that one made out of corn husks that’s very little dust. Can’t few embed the name, maybe Worlds Best Litter? It’s yellowish though-you won’t miss it at the pet store.

I use pelleted horse bedding in my litter boxes. FAR superior to deal with than anything sold specifically for that purpose.

Easy to clean, absorbs odor, no dust, very little tracking.

I’ll never go back to purposeful cat litter again.

Any particular brand, Daatje? Do you follow a particular method to prepare it? How often do you have to dump it all and start over?

As much as I love Petco’s storebrand clay litter, it’s getting insane having to go to the pet store for a bucket refill every week since the water-loving kitten came into my life. He drinks/pees more than the horse does!
