Dutch harness horse drama. Update major mare/ foal neglect Nov 2023 post 1782 Update Kate Shearer responds post 1930 Nov 25/23

Hmmm.

The only reason this became a topic of conversation was because K was talking about it on her own public FB page. if you publicize things yourself, they get talked about.

The Diva website is much snippier about the situation than anything on COTH btw.

A public statement was released on my fb. Of course you completely changed all the information that was on my fb and made this seem ridiculous. If you want to share something then share the actual post and the truth. Don’t change the situation just to cause drama. But you got what you wanted. You’ve made me feel pretty darn upset because sometimes people just cannot handle the rants from people on social media. So congrats again scribbler. You got what you wanted.

Only you can do that.

Being pregnant with an “oops” baby seems like a good reason to hold off a bit on starting under saddle! Makes for an interesting story though!

Yeah, it sure was interesting. My filly was a good mom, but she was far too young and totally overwhelmed at first, and she became very feral and uncatchable. Not ideal. Got her back on side, eventually, but man…it sucked.

One of my happiest days was when we gelded her son. Unwanted equine teen pregnancies stop here.

Not at all. Sometimes a person can only handle so much misinformation and aggressiveness towards them from random people they don’t know. I do not understand why anyone would find such pleasure in trying to destroy another, but it is clear here that was the point from the beginning. This never started as a friendly discussion about my breeding program. This post was made to try to derail me. It hasn’t but it has been incredibly hurtful that a handful of internet keyboard warriors would actually find pleasure in posting the way they have and the continual questioning of my education and employment when everything was spelled out right there. It’s unfortunate that this happens at all to anyone, but I think its more unfortunate that this has been entertainment for so many. Who knew trying to hurt someone would be so entertaining. What has happened to our society.

Wow, what a story though! So she would’ve accidentally gotten in foal at 2? Do you think the pregnancy affected her own growth or development?

What’s the name of the detective assigned to your case?

Yeah, she would have been barely two when knocked up by, wait… her half brother. Line breeding, right?

Vet thought it might delay her growth but didn’t think it would have any long term effects. I hope not. She is very refined; doesn’t have as much bone as some PREs but people who know the breed better than me tell me she is just an Old Skool baroque type mare.

If it makes you feel any better, when I toured Zangersheide in Belgium many years ago, it was part of their program to breed the young mares that they liked before they broke them, since they did not want to start them under tack too early. That way they would have a foal or two on the ground before they even started their careers.

They produced many, many, many very competitive horses with that program, including at least one mare that was very successful showing at the Grand Prix level over jumps, and occasionally competing against her own offspring that had been born before she was even broke.

So don’t worry if you feel like your mare is a little bit behind schedule. Lol.

And then it’s time to walk away. My mother used to say, “What other people say about you is none of your business.” Think about it.

Look, the internet can be a shitty, heartless and cruel place. People will say things from their keyboard that they would never say to anyone’s face. You’ve been put in the limelight with some harsh criticism and I can see how that would be disheartening.

FWIW, I really like what you are producing with your breeding program. You clearly have had good results. You are using great lines and you are advocating for the DHH with some really nice offspring. It’s great to see the DHH being used in sport and proving people wrong about the breed. The thread has provided a lot of insight regarding the breed, and has corrected a lot of misinformation. That’s a win for the DHH and for your breeding program. It takes a lot of heart, dedication and passion to breed and breed well. A lot of people are not going to understand your position as a breeder and will be quick to judge themselves, even having never personally put themselves out there as a breeder vulnerable to critique. That’s ok. You’re never going to get everyone’s approval. The best you can do is to follow your passion and keep producing the best results you can. The rest will fall into place.

We all live and learn and adjust. You don’t have to accept defeat from anyone. Just learn from your experiences, aspire to do better, and keep moving forward. That is the best any of us can do.

As a point of clarity, while they don’t technically HAVE to, nearly every foal that is presented at a KWPN keuring is assigned either a “first or second premium” by the inspectors.

That’s not an indicator of quality for a breeding program.

Very often in these situations we see a person accusing other people of exactly what they do themselves. Projection. It’s actually very very common in the trainwreck posts. In fact it’s one thing they all have in common.

Keuring participation is a helpful tool to know if one is on the right track according to your registries breed standards, and can absolutely help to market your foal, as well as provide a good opportunity for quality media.
However, this is after all one day in a foal’s life, and some are in good growth stages when seen and others may not be. That’s how the cookie crumbles.

Foals receive a score for movement and conformation, and the average is calculated for the overall score. The jury does not tend to be overly generous in their scores, so if your foal receives any 8’s or above you should be on cloud 9. If you foal is in the mid to low 6’s, you have some homework to do.

First Premium scores are an overall 7 and above, which is an indication you have met and/or surpassed the breed standard.
Second Premium scores are between an overall 6 and 6.9 , and are also considered breed standard.

The foal futurity is a new award program in the last two years, funded by our Stallion Service Auction proceeds, and based upon the keuring scores, but not everyone enters it, so the results can differ from the overall keuring results.

I don’t think that people are excusing assault/battery, at least I’m not and not that I’ve seen here. I think that we also teach our kids that if they’re always out poking people with sticks to not be surprised when the poked person responds and then go running crying to mom. Does poor behavior justify a poor response? Of course not. Commenting in general and not because I have any knowledge or judgement of the situation at all.
