Oh, how awesome! Though I’m sorry to hear about her dam.
I’d love to see updated photos. You’ll have to join our 2023 Foal Watch thread/party on the SHB forum. We had a blast together this past year celebrating everyone’s foals.
We have no way to know what she actually said as opposed to what the final edit was.
She could have said “makes more than she woujd if she were practicing law” and they misquoted.that has happened to me
It’s happened to me as well. Many times. And every time I contacted the journalist or editor and had it fixed, no problem.
Stating she had an “equine law practice” is a major error, if not true.
And you know she saw it. She was interviewed, for gods sake. Afterwards she read the article and watched the video because that’s what people do when they’re the focus of a puff piece.
I don’t know, but my first thought that it refers to the breeders, i.e. “greedy” breeders. Sort of shorthand for “doodle” breeders who specifically breed for the money they can get from the current dog-fad-crosses.
I’ve heard that called a “golden doodle.” It’s all silly. They’re cross bred dogs. Giving it a cute name doesn’t change that fact. You can’t just invent a breed!
There’s no such thing as bad publicity, as the saying goes. I was inspired by this thread to go look up more about my own KWPN-NA harness type. Found some very cool video from when he was 2-3.
Yes, I knew someone years ago who bought a puppy from a pet store near a horse show. I forget now what the cross was, but I remember the show manager, who was old and wise, referred to it as something like a basic black ball of fur. Which was absolutely accurate.
Exactly. And now there are a plethora of other designer poodle cross mutts like Aussiedoodles, Shipoos, Maltipoos, Chipoos, Bernadoodles, and so many more. I’d say easily 60% of the dogs our neighbourhood are some kind of non-accidental poodle mix. I have a Cockapoo myself - rescued, not purchased.
Many of these mixes turn out to be wonderful dogs. But they are still mixes, no matter how much breeders talk about F1 and F2 and create their own registries to market themselves to uneducated buyers. And since people are willing to spend literally thousands of dollars for these puppies, clearly there is a demand for them. But they aren’t comparable to a carefully selected purebred dog from a reputable breeder, anymore than a Clyde x Hackney can be compared to a purpose-bred warmblood, just because they are a mix of hot and cold-blooded breeds.
I completely respect the opinions of the inspectors generally, but am not sure about the hunter category. A pure DHH should not be a fit. It’s confusing. I am more or less breeding for dressage, but for things like Keuring national results, I feel hunter might be a better breeding direction given my mare’s conformation, how successful my mare’s sirenhas been in hunters, and her obvious jumper breeding.
I do dressage now, but have a nice horse so intend to sell her foals, so marketing is important.
Here’s the thing, what the general public see as a “Dhh” is far different than what I breed and have. I might have the old renovo and manno lines but they are targeted for specific over fence careers. And many dressage lines actually make phenominal hunters. I know a for romance that is excelling in the performance hunters! a good elastic shoulder is a good elastic shoulder.
The bolded? Sadly, a very common and predictable comeback from posters who want to impress others with how amazing they are… the old I Have Lots Of Private Messages schtick.
… and THAT ^ is not only sad, but poor business acumen. Offense intended - and taken. You have zero idea of what posters here know - and sneering and disparaging the rest of us in that way (to your great loss) does not reflect well on you.
You are not doing yourself any favors with what I am sure you see as hysterically funny and witty comebacks.
But apparently that is the way that you do you. #shrug
