Looking for recs on E-bikes or scooters to get around at shows. Obviously would need to be all-terrain type, ideally reliable with long battery life!
We bought a Rad EBike this past year and have been very happy with it. It doesn’t look like they still make the model we bought, we chose one for taller riders to accommodate hubby as he is my groom and won’t pass a vet (haha). It was on sale at the time, seat goes up and down for me, I’m 5’6", and have been totally fine using it. We got a front basket for it too.
Barn mate bought the folding one and is happy with it, we went the other direction as they are better for shorter riders.
ours does fit in the tackroom of our trailer, but it’s a tight fit. If we aren’t hauling a buddy we can strap it in the other horse compartment.
this is a heavy bike, but I’m not anywhere without DH to help load it. Super helpful for larger horse parks (we are east coast) we brought it with us to AEC’s and loved having it there!
Not sure I would put anything that could explode in a horse trailer.
We keep our battery separate from the bike when traveling. It’s in the truck with us.
Seconding the RAD Ebikes! They’re ridiculously fun, and come with pretty rugged tires to get around non-paved tracks easily. They are extremely heavy, though.
I have a Lectric 3.0 folding ebike. There is a light version that doesn’t have as many gears and has fewer accessories. I’ve been very pleased with mine. As with the RAD bikes the Lectric are heavy.
The Lite is about 50 pounds. The 3.0 is about 64 pounds.
I also have a Lectric Lite. I LOVE it! I first ordered the full size Lectric, but it was too heavy and cumbersome for me to handle (ie load and unload) myself. I got the Lite version instead and it’s perfect for my needs. Handles all terrains quite well and the battery life is awesome.
Prior to my ebike I had a Segway Pro Scooter. Although the size was convenient, it could only handle flat hard surfaces. Not ideal for horse shows at all!
You realize how many LQ trailers and trailers with electric jacks have auxiliary batteries mounted on them, right?
I bought a Segway Ninebot F2 Pro folding scooter to use at horse shows, and it has been great - I purposely got the Pro model to handle terrain a little better. I’ve used mine all over WEC Ocala even off the pavement and it has been fine on terrain unless I hit really soft sand. I don’t recall exactly how much it weighs, but anything heavier would be a pain to load into the back of my SUV. It’s not light but it is very manageable. Battery makes it a whole show week of zipping around, and still has some left by the time it comes home to recharge.
those batteries are usually lead acid glass mat (AGM) not lithium-ion batteries
Even in China the government there is offering a government trade in allowances to get the lithium-ion batteries bikes out of the hands of the people to use sealed lead acid bikes
Some are lead acid, but some are most certainly Li ion.
I have a lectric bike as well, best thing I ever did was to get rid of the scooter that didn’t start half the time and get the ebike.
I have a Jetson, super cheap at Sam’s club. Plus it’s small enough to fit in my dressing room or the bed of the truck and I can actually do that myself.
No worries about it “exploding.”
