E-mail newsletters

Does your hunt have an e-mail newsletter?

If so, how often does it go out?

What do you include in it?

Is it worth the work required to put it out?

The president of the hunt sends one out on an as needed basis. Sometimes it is news about things going on in the hunt, sometimes it is congratulating people for wins at shows, etc. I don’t know how much time she spends on it.

Our hunt has one. It usually goes out about 3-4 times a year, and there are all sorts of things in it. Usually an article about the most recent big hunt we had (Opening, Closing, etc), the hunt ball, good news and neat things members may have done, horsey or otherwise etc etc. We have a little section on hunt turnout, called Ask the Hunt Maven, that is very informative, and a letter from the huntsman about whatever she wants to write about. There may info about joint meets or upcoming hunt weeks, stuff like that.
I really enjoy getting it, its fun to read and very informative. But I also know that probably most of the membership doesn’t read it or if they do don’t pay attention because they don’t seem to know what’s going on.
Our JtMFH/Huntsman puts it together and does the majority of it.

Hunt Club Newsletters

[QUOTE=Risk-Averse Rider;4240522]
Does your hunt have an e-mail newsletter?
We have a web site that serves as a newsletter.

If so, how often does it go out? Updated as needed, usually monthly, more often if needed, we also send out emails on needed quick information

What do you include in it? Fixture cards, for sell items, photos, historical information on the hunt, random items of interest

Is it worth the work required to put it out? the membership seem to enjoy and use

We have been discussing this at our hunt.

One thing we are trying is creating a new website that has more of a “blogging” feel to it so that we can get regular updates/articles/photos from members. It’s also possible that we’ll turn those into a printed piece for members who are not comfortable on the computer.

Our current website is very static but using a Wordpress template I think we’ll have something more flexible which makes it easier to get the word out to members.

I just rebuilt the website for us. I added the blog to it. I am hoping to have hunt reports put on the blog. I also added a dynamic calendar so that we can have things up there all the time.

I figure 90% of the site is static but that the other 10% can be updated by multiple people using tools like wordpress or phpeasycalendar
