Ear Infection

I am making a new thread because for some reason I can’t find a search function for the forum on my computer…

Vet will be coming out but I’m curious now… I haven’t had any with ear issues before but my filly was weird about one side of her face today, checked her ears and one is definitely warmer at the base, I can’t see or feel anything inside her ear so I called the vet.

What should I expect? Are young horses more prone to get ear infections like young children?

Her ears are fluffy and have always been since birth this summer, I can’t see anything easily getting in there.

It could be something did manage to ge5 down in the ear canal— including a tick.

Ticks don’t necessarily die once they release after gorging and fall down in in there:(

you can google “ear ticks in horses” and read the credible links:)

IMO, you did the right thing calling the vet. remind him of the possibility of a tick in the ear canal. He will likely have to sedate the filly to do a thorough exam:)
