Easyboot glove rubs -- solutions?

I have just started using Easyboot gloves on my mare this season – so far done six or seven 50s and they have been working great – they stay on in mud or sand, she moves great in them, much happier than in shoes, and I love how easy they are. However, I do occasionally get a rub on the front of her pasterns under the gaiter. This last 50 had several miles of fairly deep sand each loop, and even though I took off her boots every check, washed them and her legs, and vaselined her up, she still got rubs under them, I think partially from the sand. Do I maybe have the gaiters too tight? I snug them up, because I would think you needed to do that in deeper sand or mud, and that loose gaiters would allow in even more sand. But maybe they shouldn’t be snug? Any other thoughts on preventing rubs? I know our next ride also has a few miles of deep sand and I’m anxious to prevent the same problem.

I would leave them a hit looser, or remove them in the deep sand. Have you tried plastic shoes? My Arab loves his equiflex shoes. They were invented for endurance horses. They give more protection and wear better than steel. I use impression material for more protection from horse eating gravel.

I’ve heard of putting a pair of knee high pantyhose on under them. I haven’t tried it, but it supposedly works.

Not a solution as much as an alternative, but you could try gluing on the Glove shells for your competitions and then carry the regular glove boot as a spare if you loose one.

Glad to hear the gloves are working that well other than the rub problem. We’ve used them long difficult trail rides and people often have a hard time believing how well they work and stay on if you have the fit right. We have not had rubs but we are not doing anything nearly as strenuous as you are.

Good luck!

I use athletic tape, seems to do the trick for my guy - he was prone to rubs as well - that being said it makes em a tad more ‘fun’ to get on because of the tape.
