Eating Disorders and Equestrians?
Oh goodness you aren’t exaggerating. Their comments on that thread, combined with this one…wow. It sounds like they’re really hurting inside about this topic.

Especially when Rodeo goes so far to even claim that small/thin women riding large horses is partially to blame for eating disorders:
Jezzus, are you really that thin skinned that you found that comment offensive? Get out from under your rock and live a little.

Yes, I think a person’s body size should fit their horse. It’s not that revolutionary an idea.

Hilda Gurney is hardly svelte and she seems to have no problem.
Did you read my post? I said your own “fighting weight.” She was all muscle when she made the team on Keen. It’s about being fit. It’s about not being lazy and unfit. Because that’s unfair to the horse.

In response to “TickleFight:” The purpose of this assignment was not a research project. The purpose was to raise awareness of my self and in the community about mental illness (this happen to be my chosen topic). Many people, as you can see by reading the replies on here where not aware of how often equestrians are struggling with mental illness. The discussion on here was meant to raise my own awareness which I then used to create the youtube video which I have shared with the people I know in the equestrian community (including everyone on here) in order to raise their consciousness of the subject. Thank you for your concern but it is not relevant to the purpose of this discussion.
Define “mental illness”. Many people think horse people are nuts, as a general rule of thumb.

And you can definitely be skinny and unfit. Seen it before a lot in the military. Weight alone doesn’t equal fitness level. Thick women can be great riders and vis versa. It’s all about shedding unnecessary pounds and having muscle control.

Unfortunately because of age and genetics, it can be harder for some people more than others, but that’s life.

Not disagreeing. I’m not sure I see your point in reposting from my comments.

A Simple look back at your posts on any forum here show your chip on your shoulder and your vitriol toward anyone who is white, thin, or in any way what you think of as perceived privileged.

You’re talking out of both sides of your mouth.

I think you’re just here to argue.

Just adding on. It appears to me that a lot of people here don’t know the difference between fit weight and unhealthy weight. There are a lot of dressage riders in the pro level who are thicker men and women but aren’t fat.

Being fat (out of shape, limited athletic ability) will not get anyone into the Olympics.

Most normal people do talk from both sides of their mouth? Dumbest phrase I’ve ever heard.

Calling someone privileged isn’t offensive unless you don’t like having to take a look at yourself. Privilege from being white and being thin are both real things. Do you not know anything about Sociology? Or just life in general?

You choose to be offended. Get over it.

I think we all know it.

Skinny = lazy, underweight, unhealthy, white, sorority, genetically blessed, and privileged. And prejudiced against anyone else. Probably with an eating disorder.
Right?

But those girls shouldn’t ride big horses because that looks bad to you and you don’t like it.

Let me know if I missed anything.

Yes, clearly.

Please state your height, weight, and level of fitness. Measurements too.

Political affiliation, and college activities. How big and what breed is your horse?
I’m upset because someone disagreed with me on a horse forum!
Fix’d

Omg.

You’re seriously revising history to suit your nastiness?

Holy crap. I think this is a first on COTH-making it appear as though someone wrote something they did not.

Is is seriously your first time on the internet? Do I need to go grab a Kleenex for you? Are you going to be okay?

Don’t forget race, and why not throw relationship status in there. Oh, and how about annual household income?
