Does anyone use this pad? I caused some damage to my thinline and I’m looking for a half pad to add some cushion from my pounding behind but not really change the saddle fit. Thanks!
A friend of mine and the BO both have them. I like the pad but do not like the shims. The shims are a very thin foam that compresses easily and permanently. They call the shims memory foam. They are thin kinda foam with big cells almost open cell. Not what I would call memory foam.
I prefer the felt Mattes shims.
I borrowed the BO’s ECP pad and used my felt shims. That worked well. But I needed it to change the fit of a saddle not for cushioning. I don’t see it adding any more cushion that any other saddle pad especially with the shims provided.
My saddle fitter does not like the shims for people like polo players, eventers and foxhunters. She says they compress too quickly. She will use it for her hunter rides since they spend more time in a half seat they don’t compress as fast.
I would echo this. In my case, I needed to tweak saddle fit. The shims in my ECP pad compressed to half their thickness–permanently–in less than a month of dressage rides on a greenie. I’m looking for Mattes or Thinline shims to replace the ECP shims right now.
I have used those pads. It’s very easy to use the shims as a pattern to cut shims out of a yoga mat and cut extras if you need to stack or even half shims. The pads, according to their rep, are made in the same factory as Mattes. I agree that the shims are a bit less substantial than the Mattes but the yoga shims works great if needed.
I agree with Jay. . .we sell them, but usually recommend different shims. People love the price point. . and if you just need a tiny bit of correction, they’re great, but they don’t keep their thickness for long.
Yoga mats work, and I even had a client cut up her old thinline pad for rear shims.
A shimmable pad that does hold up well is the Total Saddle Fit half pad. Their shims are a bit thicker, and a bit more sturdy!
That yoga mat idea worked great! My pony is much happier. Thanks, Jay!
Glad it worked for you. It wasn’t my idea. I got it from a blog or COTH, can’t recall, but it works well.
I know this is an old thread but I’m so glad I searched for replacing ECP shims. I’m going to try the yoga mat and that would be much cheaper than buying a new set of shims anyway.
You can get very cheap yoga mats. Do you have a Five Below store? Try there. I bought several for draping over jumps. You can’t beat five bucks.
