Editing time windows

I notice that if I pick up a typo or need to change a word immediately (i.e., within maybe 3 minutes) after I post something, I can do so and the resulting edited message does not show that it ever was edited. I think this is true even if somebody already has replied to the original message.

If I don’t notice the need for a change until, say, 20 minutes later and I edit it then, the edited message notes that it was edited and when.

How much time do I have to clean up a fresh post before it is actually marked as edited?

Also, it seems to me that if a long time (maybe a day, but I don’t know how long) passes before a message is edited, either this system or the old board also would request a justification for the edit. How does that work and what are the timeframes? Tnx.

If you edit within the first 10 or 15 minutes (don’t remember the exact time), there will be no “edited by” notation, because it’s assumed lots of people make minor edits to their posts right after they make them.

It does give you the option of including the reason why you edited a post, but you don’t have to.
