Effects of weather on mare going into labor?

Does anyone know if weather has an effect on a mare going into labor?

Ive heard numerous people before say that when there is a big storm coming, they worry about their mares going into labor. I’ve read numerous facebook posts saying something along the lines of “well a huge snow storm is coming so i predict she will foal in the middle of it…”

Is there any truth to this?
I googled this somewhat and found that mares will sometimes delay labor is weather is bad or carry the foal longer if it is a colder time of year but nothing that directly answers my question…

I know you see a lot more colic episodes during weather changes due to pressure, but wasn’t sure if this had an affect on labor?

I have seen zero correlation between weather and foaling in my mares. But my favorite birth was at 8:30 PM during a heat lightening storm. I got to see my first glimpses of the filly by the light of the lightening flashes

I had a filly born during a lunar eclipse who came out with an eclipse on her forehead! Not exactly the same as what you asked about but still pretty cool.

We had big storms last night with lots of thunder, lightening, rain, etc. My friend’s mare foaled. She named the colt “Thunder.”

My Mare showed definite signs of labor last Thursday night, when it was 39* F and rainy. She paced, pawed, bit her sides, and was very uncomfortable. She held out for 24 hours, and foaled the next night, when the temperature was 50* F, and almost 80*F the next day. Thank goodness they can adjust a little bit!

Yes.not all of them follow this but many mares here have foaled right around pressure drops.

Hmmm… storm line pushing through over the next few days and one of our girls (who was due last week) is finally showing some changes in the milk testing. Of course she’s still eating (like a horse) and seems calm as anything.

We have seen a pattern with respect to mares foaling and changes in barometric pressure.

The mare I posted about earlier in this thread foaled last night in the middle of a storm, though I think it might have had more to do with being 351 days than the weather.

My OTTB mare foaled after a huge storm, including a tornado warming for our town, went through. I was sleeping in the bed of our truck, so I could be there if she needed help. She bagged up around 4 pm the next day and had her colt at 2 am the next morning.

My friend had a mare that had done the same thing. She told me to be on watch after a large low pressure drop. She turned out to be right in my case.

Well I have until last night!!! Have 4 ready as can be,thought they would all go with the storms that came through but nothing! Hopefully they won’t wait until the other 2 are ready. Don’t think we could handle 6 in one night!
