I’m in need of a new pair of paddock boots and half chaps! I like Ego 7 and Tredstep, and was just wondering if anyone had opinions on either of those brands? Or perhaps have opinions on other brands! I’m just looking for a comfortable pair of paddock boots to wear around and to ride in, and a pair of half chaps to school in. I’m more of a leather fan than suede, as well!
Thanks so much!
I’ve been happy with my Tredstep paddock boots. The first pair I got had a sole that delaminated in fairly short order but they replaced them. For whatever reason, I haven’t had as good of luck with their half chaps. At the moment I have whatever the Ariat washable ones are (not the ones with mesh, and they come in brown). Mostly I ride in tall boots though as I like the feel better.
I’ve always had Ariat paddock boots with Tredstep half chaps. You will probably be more stylish with the Ego7 half chaps as they seem more like thin leather, Parlanti style. However, I’ve had incredible luck with my Tredsteps. I had my first pair of suede Tredsteps (~$90) for 9 years, back when I rode 8 a day! I eventually replaced them just because I had worn them so much, zipper was still intact. My second pair is on year 2. I also tried one of their leather models but ended up stretching to be too big and I swapped back for the suede.
I did not like the Tredstep paddock boots, they are very flat and had little cushioning. I ended up getting Ariat Devon, which have the cushiest footbed. Here’s another tip: you can change out the level of footbed on any Ariat boot with their separately sold inserts.
