Egusin vs Protek GI?

Considering trying one of these for my off the track guy who is very ulcer prone. Any info on one or the other?

Just looking for experiences before I pick one to try.

I’m not going to be able to answer your direct question, as I have not heard of either product, but if they are feeds, I would highly recommend Purina Outlast for ulcer protection (maybe not so much for treatment, but after some healing has occurred).
Edited to add:
Unless you’re in Canada, then it’s Purina Digestive Balance

Protek GI is powder and you have to feed a cup and change of it, unless you feed wet and your horse eats wet meals, good luck. I could never get my horse to eat it all the powder and he doesn’t do soaked feed.

The Egusin is pellets and my horse eats them with his grain or out of my hand.

They both have research to show they work.

i have never heard of egusin - interested to hear what others’ feedback/results are. i tried protek, and agree with lovemyhackney, it is a LOT of powder and my mare wouldn’t touch it. currently using poseidon hp (which is also powder, but significantly less than protek!)

oh thats good to know, deff would try the egusin first then! Glad I asked!

Hey, I am joining this conversation a bit late as I am researching options for my guy.

Have you been happy with the Poseidon HP? Is it still being well tolerated and eaten by your mare?
My vet had recommended it, as well as the Protek but I don’t think my guy is going to eat a cup of powder. He has previously not been a big fan of powders in his feed and a cup seems like a lot and expensive to waste.

my girl has been historically a VERY picky eater, so it’s taken me a while to work her up to full dose a day…that being said, she is doing FANTASTIC. she is the most settled and “at peace” in her body that she has ever been in the four years i’ve owned her. her weight is fantastic, she’s cleaning up all her food and is not showing any symptoms of gut discomfort. i’m pretty sold on the hp and still use stress paste occasionally as well.

So I’ve never heard of Poseidon HP before so I was just looking at it. In one of the pictures, it advertises reduced girthiness, calm trainable energy, and “improved right canter lead issues.” I’m a bit confused by this statement? Is this implying the lead of the canter tracking right will be improved? Why just tracking right and not left? I’m so curious!

Becuase of where the stomach is located some people say their horse is worse right when ulcery. I’ve never noticed this correlated with ulcers and it seems like a kind of useless claim to make but maybe.

Indeed… My horse was having more of an issue with the left lead when he was feeling ulcery

Yeah, my guy (granted he has plenty of other issues!) has always been way worse with the left lead. Usually bucky, but when he’s ulcery he stalls behind the leg really hard when you ask for that lead.
