EHV-1 at WEC Ocala - is it real

Really? I event so don’t typically do the long stays but when I host shows at my own farm, the pastures used get fenced off, dragged and left for 30 Days before horses go back out. I also then spray and wipe anything and everything down!

I can’t believe how non chalant people are with bio security.

WEC now claiming three cases. Not sure people were so feverishly demanding it wasn’t there.

Hopefully the west coast horses and east coast horses are isolated enough … but I would strongly suggest biosecurity isolation protocols for any horse shipped from any state at this point, especially Florida and the South. :flushed:

Now in hindsight the isolation pens at the old stables on base at Camp Pendleton when I taught there years ago make perfect sense. I always thought it was overkill, but I guess the Marines had it right!

There also been cases at the Laurel Racetrack (MD). I assume that they are unrelated and I’m not even sure if they are neuro or respiratory, just got an alert this morning.

:woman_shrugging:t2: I mean, someone could have a stall reserved, and still not stay overnight. They could haul in, use the stall while they’re not actively riding and just hang out with friends and help out and such, and then haul home that night.

because the first two horses ran fevers and tested positive AFTER leaving WEC. The third horse, who presented with fever AT WEC, has now tested negative.
HOwever, I agree with your comment about nonchalance

WEC is not permitting haul ins. (Including those with a stall.)

FEI recommending to shut down all National events.

The extended lockdown applies to all countries that have international scheduled events through April 11—Austria, Belgium, Spain, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Sweden. The FEI again strongly recommends that all national federations in mainland Europe cancel their national events in order to minimize horse movement.
