But she would know when they were transported right?
They do know and are dealing with it apparently.
Horses continue to travel from California to Florida. There is a Thermal group on its way there now since California is locked down and Florida is still showing. Let’s hope the right precautions were and will be taken.
Turntable did the work and looked up the information. You can do the same. Sharing information is going to keep horses safe.
No one should be traveling there! That is terrifying! I hope they turn around
Really? What official website says a vet falsified documents?
But for people who left Thermal on March 10, before the first cases were known, were they even advised to isolate? DIHP is a huge facility, and for another week was continuing to run the shows and allow other horses in, and thought horses not stabled in barn 34 we’re safe. Several weeks later, it was known the situation was much worse than was revealed at the time, but someone who left March 10 may have been advised they were fine if they had stabled half a mile from barn 34.
When was Ram Tap?
Oh dear, it isn’t on a website.
If she left Thermal on 2/10, that was before the first case was announced. Still, she could have taken her horses home, took temps twice a day for 7 days, and still been able to show up at Ram Tap within recommended guidelines, albeit barely. No violation of rules. When did she ship for Florida? What guidelines were in place when she did? Do you know? I’m not defending people who put horses at risk, but I’m not throwing people under the bus without knowing what rules were in place at the time they acted.
At least not to my knowledge. Not yet at a least.
That is the whole scandal with DIHP. They played the outbreak down. Which is really scary and sickening. Now horses all over the state are sick and many are dying.
Someone else said that Tamie Smith showed her horses at Thermal Feb 9 and 10, before the first case was announced. The original protocol was isolate for 7 days while monitoring temperature before entering another competition. So if her horses had no temperatures since leaving on Feb 10, she followed protocol.
A week ago, isolation time was increased to 14 days.
As far as I can tell, she may have gone to and left Thermal before the first case was known, and followed the 7 day protocol at the time.
At this point, FEI horses which have been at Thermal must have temp taken for two weeks, and have tests done at 7 days and 14 days after possible exposure before returning to competition.
I think you’re too quick to condemn her.
So it’s just a rumor?
No. It is not a rumor.
Read the previous posts. USEF already knows. It is more about letting everyone know what horses have been where so that if a horse does get sick the owners know why. It is also about horsemanship.
Are you referring to the statement that a vet falsified documents?
I am saying that it is already being dealt with apparently.
More importantly, the disease is spreading and people need to be vigilant, almost obsessive that it doesn’t spread. Orange County and San Mateo County are terrifying.
OK. I’m not sure what “it” refers to at this point.
I agree the situation is terrifying, but it still seems wrong to condemn people on partial information if they were following the protocols of the moment.
Horsemanship wise the right thing to do would have been to keep your horses at home and not move them to other states and compete them, even if there is the smallest chance. JMO
