It’s an easy mistake since it was the same time of year last year that they had the cases at Laurel.

Glad that the symptoms are mild but yikes!!

I’ve been taking my horses’ temps twice a day just out of an abundance of caution.

Wow, 40 horses are symptomatic at one place? That’s got to be overwhelming. I’m not familiar with Meadowbrook, but apparently it’s mostly school horses (?). I hope the affected ones do indeed recover.

seems unusual that there is such a huge cluster of neuro symptoms in the one facility. have they ruled out feed toxins?

Neuro expression of this virus in the whole population is not common. Unless this virus, in this population has mutated into some superbug. If so we may be in for dark days

Meadowbrook offers an excellent school/lesson program that also has private clients. They have lovely horses and a knowledgeable staff. That number of affected horses is eye-popping, and I am sincerely hoping that all of them recover uneventfully. Really scary situation.

I agree that many horses with neurological symptoms seems unusual. It’s possible that whoever wrote the GoFundMe update misspoke and it’s 40 horses with positive EHV-1 tests or general EHV symptoms rather than neurological symptoms.

i certainly hope so, I suspect if they had 40 neuro symptom presenting horses the state vet and the federals would be all over it.

This seems likely to me. Perhaps 40 horses are symptomatic in terms of fever. It seems very unusual that 40 horses would have mild neurological symptoms.

Let’s hope. I can’t even imagine the vet work involved in that situation.

New cases alert:

Indiana too now I see.

Have any California racehorses been diagnosed with EHV?

Not according to the CDFA site, though I don’t think that will report EHV-1 that’s not neurological or associated with a neurological case.

OMG, thanks for the heads up. My mare is supposed to go to a barn in that county to be bred next month. ugh…

Actually there was a case at the Alameda training track. If I recall correctly, the horse was moved to quarantine in the sonoma area, and there were no other cases linked.

Poor thing. I hope he made a full and speedy recovery.

But from the horse’s point of view, that would have to stink to be taken away from all his friends and sent to live by himself as an only horse in quarantine.

EHV in OR, and EHM in PA.

do you know where in pa

The horse is at New Bolton Center. I haven’t heard where it came from.
