EHV at Thermal?

Has anyone heard back from Emily Pratt at USEF about the trainers who violated quarantine leaving Thermal? Wonder if anything will come of that especially considering at least one is a very big name and USEF official.

GOOD question, I was wondering about this, how did it all just go away???

No one violated quarantine by leaving Thermal. The only quarantine was in the affected barns and no one was allowed to leave those. Others were free to leave, though some stayed for various reasons, including restrictions at their home barns.

What some people did was bring horses from Thermal 4 to shows that asked people not to do that. Not saying what they did was right by any means.

You’d think I wouldn’t mix up quarantine and isolation after a multi-year human pandemic but alas. My understanding is that Thermal horses who were not in quarantined barns were permitted to leave but were asked to observe a 7 day isolation period. Multiple trainers did not complete the full isolation period and went to other shows, including LA and Sacramento.

I know a lot of people stayed at Thermal or went home and responsibly isolated. Probably the vast majority. But a handful of people didn’t do that and the ripple effect was intense. And one of those people is one of the biggest names on the West Coast as a trainer, judge and steward
I agree with you that it was wrong, and I think USEF not acknowledging that sets a scary precedent.

Yes. There were suggested isolation period and distancing recommendations from CDFA, but the language wasn’t forceful. https://deserthorsepark.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/CDFA-DIHP-EHM-Update-20220211.pdf

The LA and Murietta shows had additional protocols that were more forceful.

So there were several sets of protocols and things kept changing, so it’s not particularly easy to remember the details. And I was there week 4. We went home and hunkered down, keeping the showing horses isolated from others.

Per Emily Pratt at USEF: “The matter has been reviewed and resolved with the individuals involved through the USEF regulatory process. At this time, I do not know if the resolution will be made public.”

What does that mean? Are we to guess they got a scolding or were fined some nominal amount of money and allowed to continue with business as usual, and USEF doesn’t know if they want to deal with fallout of telling the public they didn’t bother handing out any real consequences?

So here’s the original 747 comment thread that started at the same time the poor horse in this story (https://www.chronofhorse.com/article/we-showed-on-sunday-he-died-on-tuesday-an-outbreak-story/ ) lost his life.

Apologies if the old title causes concern - this is all 2022.

The article is vague about what happened to the shall-not-be-named trainers that ignored the rules and put lives at risk. What, if any, sanctions were handed down? Were there any repercussions? Do they all go on as if nothing happened?

It should be easy to look up on the USEF site if there were any repercussions, but you would have to know the trainers names.

Bingo!

If you are interested in the well known west coast

trainer many are speaking of. See attached.
