This is a wonderful post. Thank you!
Any updates on cases in the US?
There was an update on the case reported March 10 in LA county, California. As of March 15 no further cases. https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/animal_health/equine_herpes_virus.html
Someone on a Facebook group said they talked to a scientist with CDFA who said that none of the horses at that facility had been to a show in the last month. By law the person couldnât reveal the barn or even the city.
I wonder when it will be considered safe to venture off property again?
My horses are in North Salem, NY. Our barn is closed to incoming horses, and our trail system is closed. Weâve all done booster shots. Hopefully the few positives wonât turn into an outbreak.
The one farm Venturing hills who have been infected for a while are still battling it. They just sent a horse off to the vet clinic to stay I believe the other one in Ontario is still battling it also. Not a quick process.
Venturing Hill is being very transparent and announced yesterday they made the decision to send one of their horses (a 10 month old) to the Veterinary college of St Hyacinthe. So their QT will continue and restart (they are planning a 100 day qt from their last positive horse).
The other barn, Vanbrook, announced they were out of QT. Considering their first case was on Feb. 2 or 3, this seems very short and too quick. I hope they donât start moving horses around. They are close to me and I am very uneasy about this.
Thereâs another case being reported by this farm, Benchview, in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario:

I donât see this one posted on the OAHN or EDCC pages but I canât imagine they would lie about it, so maybe the reporting is behind.
Theyâre saying 21-day quarantine, but it appears to be an isolated case. Iâm sure the quarantine would be extended if another case pops up.
I wasnât aware Vanbrook was out of QT. Theyâre not far from me either, although the barn I board at doesnât host shows or events so itâs not likely they would travel here.
Many farms are planning to show at the Angelstone Tournaments, including Vanbrook⊠My DD told me on Sunday that the Vanbrook qt was over. I donât see their posts, but I do follow Venturing Hills. It is scaryâŠ
I guess if they only had the original outbreak, and then nothing since, it might make sense? They were working with vets under a quarantine, so Iâd hope the vet would have cleared them.
I donât believe we have anybody at my barn who would be showing at Angelstone or Caledon. Weâre a mixed group but the ones I can think of who would show are eventers, and tend to work off the trailers so less likely to have any contact with other horses. Obviously still need to be careful though.
Weâre still a ways from show season. The first show at CEP is April 28-2, those first ones usually donât draw many entries. Nothing at Angelstone until May 14-16, and thatâs a dressage show.
Showing is still dependent on Covid restrictions as well. CEP had to cancel their schooling dates.
I thought Vanbrook posted they were back into and asking for donations?
Whatâs the Covid status in that area currently?
CEP is in Peel region, and theyâre still Grey/Lockdown.
I think there was hope that they would move to red and be able to offer schooling to small groups. But it looks like were entering a third waveâŠ
I just saw they are recommending shutting down for another 3 weeks.
Talking about things scarey, Wesley Clover Parks just announced this: https://ottawacitizen.com/business/small-business/wesley-clover-parks-secures-ontarios-largest-equestrian-competition?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR09b92uKGZn6_TnenmEXPDKtbS7diE02E7p12KjfaOJ-J92tmyKHyFWOo0#Echobox=1615810666
Sept is a ways off, and the event has been in the works for awhileâŠbut timing is bad considering everything that is going on.
Ohana Acres is still battling it. The quarantine has been lifted at Vanbrook.
They had to plan for Trillium Champs, because Angelstone bought Caledon and Champs were no longer able to be held at CEP.
Just because itâs being planned doesnât mean itâs going to actually happen when the time comes. Same with the Royal, who also announced they are planning for 2021.
