As of late yesterday, there were 2 confirmed cases in Alberta. 3 cases in SE sask, and a case in BC as well. (can’t find the exact number of cases in BC as of yet - just that there is at least 1.
She was vaccinated but the vaccine is supposedly not effective against the neurologic type.
My understanding is that the vaccine will not protect THAT horse from the neurological form, but it will drastically cut down the rate at which the virus multiplies and is shed.
So vaccinating will reduce the further spread of the disease.
We also have a case in Alberta! Our vet sent it out on FB letting everyone know and then gave us their conference call discussions! (If you are interested go to Moore and Company) or the below link

Maybe they got overloaded. It comes up error for me too but it worked up until a minute ago!
I’m in Ca and my vet was at the barn today, (her horse lives there too). She said she has an active case. We have shut our barn down. No horses going in or out. Its a bummer for those that are actively showing right now…but worth the quarantine for the rest of us.
Heather - from this morning. I know the state was reporting 10 as of 9am so not sure what time this report below was written.
According to Gary Magdesian, DVM, Dipl. ACVIM, ACVECC, associate professor in the department of medicine and epidemiology at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), School of Veterinary Medicine, four horses at referral practices in Northern California tested positive for the virus May 16, and two horses currently in quarantine at UC Davis’ isolation facility tested positive the same day. Magdesian reported that veterinarians were treating the horses at UC Davis and that the animals were in stable condition as of Tuesday morning (May 17).
My barn in nor cal is closed - nobody in or out for at least the next month. I’ve heard conflicting reports on the CA outbreaks. UCD reports here that Bakersfield had 2 cases, 1 of which ended with euthanasia, and 4 more cases in northern CA. They also say 2 cases are currently at their facility, but it isn’t clear whether those are included in the previous counts or are in addition.

I’m in the same boat. We’re supposed to be leaving Sunday for 8 days of showing at Bishop Mule Days. Vet wants me to give it serious thought. At this point Bishop is not cancelling the show and I’ve got major $$ tied up in entries there.
I’m going to see how things progress over the next few days.
What I’m curious about is are the confirmed cases in CA all from horses who attended the cutting event in Utah? Anyone know?

Additionally, a horse at a cutting show in Bakersfield, Calif., hosted by the Kern Country Cutting Horse Association (KCCHA), was euthanized the morning of May 13 after displaying clinical signs consistent with the neurologic form of EHV-1. According to Peggy Biller, president of the KCCHA, the horse was taken to the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory at the University of California, Davis, (UC Davis) Veterinary Medicine Teaching and Research Center, in Tulare, for necropsy.

The Bakersfield show was scheduled to run 5/13 - 5/15 and was cancelled sometime after the ill horse was identified on 5/13.
