Electrical and Lighting Questions for Indoor Riding Arena

Existing panel. Thanks.

the existing panel… what amp is it? just wondering, our house for some reason had a 400amp three phase service install when it was built so it wasn’t any big deal to run a 200amp sub panel off it… (the three phase is used to run the air conditioners)

I just got the new proposal for the electric and lighting and I am pretty happy. I am able to substitute the 185W LEDs for a net cost of just $32 more than the previous proposal with fluorescent.

Even though the LED fixtures are more expensive per each, we need far fewer of them so it’s turning out to be an almost even-up swap.

I am satisfied with the 100-amp service, given the electrician’s explanation and the varied comments from CoTHers. So, I think we are full speed ahead…still waiting on the County.

Do the 200 amp service, you can never go back.

10 of those fixtures will not be enough, we had 15 400 watt metal halide fixtures in our 70X120 before we expanded.

I would look hard at these fixtures also.

We have 21 of these T5HO fixtures in a 70X170 arena and are very happy with them. At under $100 per fixture, they are a good deal.

The more I read about the Litetronics 185s (https://www.prolighting.com/hb185b150dl.html) the more impressed I am with them. I downloaded and read all of the materials from the spec sheets to the installation directions.

I think the extra $37.12 will prove a wise investment!

Always factor in expansion. Just go 200a.
I have wet location LEDs in my barn and they are bright!

That second link is what we have, wonderful light, no shadows.
Not familiar with the others.

Along these same lines – what about outlets? How many and where did you place outlets in the riding arena?

I am thinking I would like at least one quad-outlet outside, near the front of the building; two outlets in the “viewing” area right inside the building; and maybe two more down at the far end?

I’d love to know where and why you placed outlets – not for the barn, which is a separate building on my property, but for the riding arena.

Thanks!

Have receptacles on three corners and the middle of the front entrance.

Then have two extra ones in the front, high up, for security cameras.

If you have a designated viewing area, yes, put some there, for a sound system, power point gadgets, extra heat, lamps, etc.
