Email from Lamplight?

Did anyone get the email, supposedly from HITS, about a positive case of COVID at Lamplight?

Myself and others coming, along with vendors already there, didn’t. However, we’ve gotten every other HITS email known to man. Wondering if it’s all rumor or if some people did actually get an email.

I’m not a USEF member, but I can text my trainer and ask. She’s at Lamplight this week.

My trainer said she’s heard about someone at the show grounds testing positive, but it sounds like they’re diligently screening people, so she personally is not concerned.

Have we heard any more about this?

The person I asked for a copy of the email from didn’t text me back. I can’t imagine her making it up, but I didn’t get anything. My friends at FarmVet got nothing (and they are set up and there) … grooms I know there heard there might have been something but no official email from management. But I did get one from Tryon where I’m not & am not planning to go!

It doesn’t change mine nor my bosses travel plans, but it might change some friends. So I’d definitely like clarification, and HITS is notoriously frustrating to get ahold of or answers from on my end unless they want money from me. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’ve found them some what responsive through Facebook. Or you could try the tactic of asking on their public Facebook or Instragram page.

Someone on Twitter also posted they got an email about this.

My friend is a braider and yesterday when she was there she was told that a groom tested positive. She wouldn’t have gotten an “official” email, though, just word of mouth news.

Oh I did. They read the message and no response. I told you, they only want to talk to me when I need to give them money.

I had also heard that they are not following the mask rules very well, which makes me kind of nervous. Anyone hear anything about that?

A groom friend sent me a Snapchat of a steward not wearing their mask, and she said “there’s more people there with a mask than without” when we were texting about the COVID case there.

Also, update: I did finally get ahold of HITS and they confirmed a groom had developed symptoms with no fever over the weekend of Spectacular II. He tested positive on Monday while they were home (farm didn’t stay through the weekend, they left Friday). The farm & groups are home and are now self isolating and no one else has tested positive within their trainer/groom group - even those staying within close quarters.

EDITED: reworded for date/time confusion.

That’s not good.

have seen WAY TOO MANY pictures posted on Facebook from trainers/exhibitors with not a single mask in sight, including of groups of people huddled by the ring(s).

A friend who was there the first week said that during the weekdays they were very lax on enforcing masks. It wasn’t until the weekend when families started arriving that they began to enforce things a bit.

Here’s a copy of the letter:
Dear HITS Chicago Exhibitors:

The HITS Chicago season is off to a great start, and we have enjoyed hosting you at the charming Lamplight Equestrian Center. As some of the first shows to run this spring, it was and continues to be important to follow health and safety protocols, including social distancing and wearing of masks.

Even with the protocols in place, when at the the horse show or when out and about in town, Covid-19 is still a concern, and we have some important news to share with you along these lines.

Yesterday, we were advised that a groom who was at Lamplight for Spring Spectacular II, June 10-14, tested positive for COVID-19 when he returned home from the show. The trainer group had finished showing and left the grounds on Friday, June 12. Over the weekend the groom developed symptoms – cough, but no fever. On Monday, June 15, he was tested for COVID-19, and the result was positive.

No one else within the trainer group has experienced any symptoms, even the other grooms who stayed in the same camper. They have all been tested and all results have come back negative. They are taking extra precautions and will be in self-isolation for 14 days. They have scratched the show for this week, and will not return until later in the season.

We felt this was important information to share with you. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Kristen Vale-Mosack in the HITS office.

You know…watching horse racing from 5 states and the UK seeing EVERYbody in masks, outriders, jockeys, grooms, trainers, officials, press, all the time, even during races, in the heat, in the rain? Doesn’t make me sympathetic to anybody who finds the physical exertion of a horse show an excuse to skip the mask.

Even without spectators, theres a thousand people a day at those tracks caring for 1500 horses all day every day yet there’s been very few positives. Its BS to skip it just because theres not enough staff to babysit them. Grow up.

BTW, shows in my area in all three states have self policed admirably in social distancing and mask wearing. Some riders flip it down on course and back up as they exit. No reminders needed, no entitlement. Lots of peer pressure if somebody “forgets”.

If this doesn’t change, we won’t go to Dressage Regionals this year. Also was planning on going to the August Dressage show since my horse hasn’t been to Lamplight yet, but won’t go to that either unless they abide by all the USEF guidelines well. 😔
