Embark vs Wisdom Panel? And puppy pics

My current shelter grab, a full
GSD per Embark tested negative
For DM which eventually took my last GSD at 15 yrs. Old.
Current dog was clear for the many other tests.
The reasons for testing this dog was a) curiosity on breed(s) and b) health testing.

The health test identified the greater risk of degenerative myelopathy in my pug, Fleur and in the case of my other adopted pug, Pompey a lower than average ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase) liver level that meant we should keep an eye on both things during regular vet visits. I was glad to know about both of these things.

This would be of particular interest for me as well, especially if it turns out this puppy is in fact some sort of GSD cross… I lost my (purebred but definitely a BYB in retrospect) GSD to DM at 10yo in 2022.

He’s still settling in of course, but he is very observant and watchful. He’s interested in following the smells outside, but isn’t hard to redirect. Hard to say on much else right now, he spends most of his free play time trying to instigate wrestle-time with my other dog  So far he’s been very trainable.

And he requires a long nap around 2pm everyday, like clockwork.

I say mine is a Tijuana Special when people ask what breed she is. It’s about 50/50 on who thinks that’s an actual breed. :joy:

I looked up her “super mutt” breakdown and it says Miniature Schnauzer, Pekingese, Pomeranian, Chihuahua and Chow. Which is quite an interesting mixture.

I wonder if he’s planning to grow into those paws and ears

I immediately thought lab-husky based on this one’s face. I had one growing up (before doggy DNA tests were a popular commercial product!) who looked very similar

Too many movies are profiling these dogs. They are NOT for the faint of heart. OP’s dog reminds me of a Mali a little bit in the eyes and shape of the head.

I have a mali now (and in the past), and love her to death, but they are not for most people.

See, Scout’s witching hour is any time between 12-3PM… I WISH she needed a long nap at 2PM. Instead she comes by, interrupting meetings or whatever I’m working on, to INSIST the world is going to meltdown RIGHT NOW if I don’t pay attention to her and help her burn off some instant-energy.

Benji is SO lovely. Thanks for sharing him with us

Maybe it’s bullshit but this is the result I told my vet. That and the white footed dog gene MDMR or whatever.

I haven’t seen any movies with Malinois in them, but I’m not much of a movie watcher. I do know from watching some YouTube shorts that they are amazing dogs, but definitely not for me! LOL My border collie as a pup was a piece of cake compared to one of them I’m sure.

The movies Max, Dog, John Wick, the series Fallout…I know there are more. I wish they would stop.

They are getting a LOT of pop-culture air time recently that’s for sure.

I have a suspicion there’s some Mal in Scout. She’s got more shepherd colouring but her physicality, prey drive, ENERGY, ways of vocalizing, tucked up abdomen/lean body, ENERGY (so nice I said it twice), mannerisms… gosh there’s a lot of potential for Mal in there. I love her a lot, but she’s a lot.

Note that she was a former stray from a northern community, with no known history. She’s smart as a whip, eager to please, sweet, and funny… but she’s a lot. And I’m an experienced large breed/high energy dog owner.

Like I said, I’m not much of a movie watcher, to be honest I can’t remember the last one I watched, so I haven’t heard of any of the movies you listed. But I’ll take your word for it. That’s a few too many movies with one breed.

I know you weren’t specifically asking, but I pulled some images so you can see how they are becoming very popular in movies - and people think “wow, those are cool dogs, I want one!”

I love this harness. It’s by an Italian company called Tre Ponti and it’s sold on Amazon.

Slightly different design for larger dogs. And cats too!

That he is!

@widge, yes, I can see it too.

And the cutest mal of all. (Juju!)

I can see a bit of resemblance to the pup in question!

I’m sure it’s not bullshit; it’s just a question of whether it provides any useful information for your vet. What did they say about it?

Nothing lol.
