Embark vs Wisdom Panel? And puppy pics

Ordering my Embark from Chewy today.

Am afraid my puppy has melted…

He’s lost 8 (!!) puppy teeth in the last week, and yesterday he weighed in at 42lbs according to my scale. If the vet paperwork he came with is accurate and wasn’t just a guesstimate, that’s over 12lb up from when he was neutered on 2/25 :flushed:

See in this picture he almost has a sight hound look.

Like a lurcher/Shepard cross.

Who knows?? What ever he is, he is precious. I love his sweet face and legs for days.

I don’t know what it is about this photo, but my aunt breeds collies and this photo screams smooth collie to me.

I will also 5th, 6th, 10th whatever Embark.
I think its pretty accurate on two of my street rats!

Can’t wait to see what the results are!

Is there a betting pool?

He looks like a smooth collie/Shepard/dobie mix to me!

@CobJockey - where I board, their neighbour breeds wolf hybrid crosses. Their dogs are super aggressive (they have escaped and chased the horses and the owner tried to “round” them up and was attacked - she is a dog groomer so knows how to handle dogs, but will not go near them, but she had to this once as they were chasing the boarders horses around). They have been in trouble with the SPCA several times (for underweight/poor conditions). Very sad to see all around…I believe they were all seized at one point but think they are breeding again.

I’m doing the Embark breeding panel for my Cardigan Welsh corgi, Lexie. Of course, there shouldn’t be any surprises for the breed, but hopefully she’ll be clear of DM an other genetic diseases.

That is exactly the type of owner I’ve always assumed bred her. It just couldn’t have been someone responsible when her very existence is irresponsible, lol.

I’ve done Embark for both of my JRT rescues, both of whom looked like some type of crosses, only to get the very boring results they were both 100% JRT.
We’ve had four in the family and they’ve all looked wildly different (two purebred from breeders, plus my two).

@MrsFitzDarcy_amp_Feliks - I want to do the same thing for my Greater Swiss as they tend to have some common genetic issues as well, and I would love to see what would show up. Are you going to purchase the pure bred one then?

What does the breeding panel include that the regular kit does not?

It doesn’t really look like a different DNA test to me other than the COI, which you should be able to calculate yourself.

I got that German Shepherd result for my scruffy puppy also. When I google search I come up with photos that match mine that are Border Collie/Poodle crosses. Zero German Shepherd. How does that get thrown in?

Don’t be silly. That’s a wirehaired Claus terrier, aka the Northern sleigh hund!

What’s the percentage and how far back in the family tree? Mika’s is a great grandparent and a mix to boot so not much of an impact on her appearance.

My previous dog also had a dash of shepherd, but far enough back or a low enough percentage it doesn’t appear on her family tree. I always suspected she was a jack russell/cockerpoo cross and I was pretty close. I definitely never would have guessed Chow, dachshund or German Shepherd though.

So many dogs get Chow, but man that’s a breed I don’t see a ton of. Is that a regional thing? Or is “Chow Chow” more broad than it sounds?

Chows were EVERYWHERE when I was a kid. Taking a look, they were a top ten breed in the 80s & 90s. A lot less popular now, but makes some sense that there’s still a chunk of that DNA in mixed breeds.

I was thinking the same thing. I’m in my 50s and have maybe seen one in person once.

In the 80s they were as common as doodles and pitbulls are today!
