I just thought of another one (non-horsey though):
lieutenant
Americans say “lootenant”; English and Canadians say “leftenant”.
In this case, I think the American pronunciation is closer to the original French than the bastardized English version, which I am pretty sure is the result of all those Norman French invading England in 1066 and the Anglo-Saxons attempting their own pronunciation that got even farther from the original over the centuries. At least that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it!
