Embroidery Machine Suggestions for Horsey Stuff

I am thinking that I would like to purchase a dedicated embroidery machine for horse things. I’ve done a bit of research, but want to hear what brands/models other people on here use. I imagine myself embroidering fly masks, saddle pads, coolers, and carrying/storage bags. Maybe my Baker cotton sheets, but nothing for turnout. I believe it will all be for personal use, although if I can find a way to turn a profit from it, I wouldn’t mind. I would like to have the ability to purchase compatible software to set up my own logo (artwork is already done) and import it to my machine. If it helps to know, I do have a windows computer, but prefer to use my MacBook.

It seems that from my research, the biggest problem with heavy-duty items is hooping them, but because I have used several different sewing machines, I also know that they “just don’t make them like they used to.” I assume that embroidery machines are similar to sewing machines in that it’s difficult to find a newer model with a motor and metal parts capable of going through even lighter-duty horse articles.

I am definitely a total beginner when it comes to embroidery, but do have experience sewing and using a serger. I’ve never owned or used anything that is super-fancy (computerized, self-threading, drop-in bobbins, etc.) and don’t mind if I have to have a little patience to use whatever I get.

My budget is less than $1000. I’m not opposed to suggestions for machines that I can pick up used in my budget. If it’s impossible to find something that will work for what I want in my budget, I’d also love to know that, and know what would be more realistic alternatives, either for machines or price point. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!!

I can tell you that my Bernina sewing embroidery machine was way more than 1000.00! I have done saddle pads and can as totes on it. For the thick items you have to hoop an interfacing and pin the item on top.

I have made some items as gifts for friends, but it is my personal machine, by no means a commercial venture.

I have a friend who is considering selling off one or more of her truly commercial machines, but they are priced highe than you want.

I don’t know ithat the less expensive, readily available machines would hold up to heavier work like you want to do.

I have a Babylock, which my Mom used once, she’s 80 and decided computer stuff is not for her. It’s very sturdy. I have no idea how to use it so it sits in the closet. I’m guessing it was about $2500 or so but she could have spent more and doesn’t want to admit it. You can find a cheapo machine at Walmart and use on light stuff just to see if you would get much use out of it. Even used a good machine will likely be more that 1K. You can try looking at Ken’s Sewing Center, they ship all over the country and are reliable. Many designers of western show clothes use Ken.
