EMERGENCY - LOST HORSE IN MD

Lost in Charles County, La Plata area.

26 year old QH mare, Bay with black points, swaybacked, scar on face from recent surgery, suffers from Cushings and has the typical long curly coat. She may have red bells boots on.

Please post if you have seen her, or know of organizations that have scent hounds that might be able to help. We’ve lost her tracks. Animal control and the sheriffs dept have been notified.

She requires medication and has no idea where she is - she was just moved to the area this past weekend.

Please help - pass this around. Thanks.

Swanj - Very happy you found your mare.

A friend of mine was out Sunday riding 4-wheelers with his son and ran into you. He told me about the missing horse. I was hoping you’d find her.

Did she get out or do you suspect she was taken?

Of course I would be of little help, thousands of miles away. But I will hope you find her soon.

Any news?

Still haven’t found her. About 20-30 people are meeting at the farm Sunday morning and will form teams. One or two teams of “old timers” will search areas of the Zekiah swamp that are passable since they know the area. The rest of us will travel by horse or on foot on either side of the swamp and look for tracks. The entire area of La Plata is plastered with flyers; we even posted them in deer stands. The Sheriff’s dept did a “reverse 911” in which they dialed every residents home (in a 1 mile radius) and notified them about the lost mare.

So far we haven’t seen any buzzards except those around the remains of field dressed deer. So we’re still hopeful.

This is about the worst nightmare I could imagine for a horse owner.

She was found today, dehydrated and hungry but ok. She’s going to be fine - she wandered up into a barnyard miles away from where her last tracks were found; she had waded across 2 swamps that were chest deep - I don’t know how she made it.

Everyone double check your gates and make SURE they are secure!!

So glad for you…what a nightmare for everyone!
