Would an air fryer be over the top for a tack room? Thinking of those long 4-5 day shows. The crock-pot is nice, but it makes well, crock pot stuff. I saw a fairly inexpensive air fryer the other day the wheels of my mind started turning. I can’t imagine it being more of a fire hazard than we already have.
Do it!
It’s great for reheating food.
If you can put it in an inconspicuous place, sure.
We used to bring a blender, displayed prominently, when all were done showing, to whiz up margaritas, daiquiri, etc.
Morning smoothies would be nice too
Combo air fryer microwave, and if you are really maximizing your life choices, get a dorm room shelf that fits over the mini fridge/freezer, that the microwave/air fryer can sit on, and then put the Keurig on the shelf over that.
Not that I’m describing my horse trailer or anything like that
Are you talking about a tackroom at the horse show or your barn? If it’s at a horse show near the stalls, the Fire Marshall will shut you down. Just sayin’.
I’d like to think a FM would shut it down, but in my experience that’s very unlikely. Most facilities seem more worried about you stapling up stall drapes than the Clark Griswold inspired electrical set-ups.
If I remember tomorrow, but it’s more utilitarian than amazing. It’s set up to hold my carriage when shipping and semi primitive camp at a show, so fancy we are not. But yes, the ice boots are icy, the beer is cold and the spinach artichoke dip is toasty warm!
But dorm room furniture is super helpful since it’s geared around tiny fridges and microwaves. I found a wire 2 shelf rack designed to fit over the fridge
I’m a huge fan of the instant pot and the air fryer lid for the benefits of both with one appliance.
I’m always stunned by the crazy number of extension cords and poor quality fans at horse shows.
This sounds bonkers (in a good way ).
I was impressed when I finally thought to bring a fridge instead of a cooler! I need to up my game.
Some show facilities allow 546 extension cords and fans but will have a meltdown over crockpots or etc. I would check ahead of time. A show I know of used to have roving barn parties with free food and drinks as you hit each barn and a new facility they switched to put a stop on the crockpots or heated skillets.
My DH is a fireman and we used to have big rated shows here in town. I just asked him if they ever did walk throughs or whatever of the facilities and he said yes they did and “no heat producing items were allowed in the barns.” So depending on your view, DH is a big meanie, or not.
I guess I’d call him a mean poopyhead… Until something plugged in caused a fire in one of those Friendliest to Fire barns/temporary stalls setup.
Then he’d be a Hero.
So Yes to the appliance only if there’s someone present to monitor anytime it’s plugged in.
The blender I referenced only got used after show was done for the day.
Rinsed out & stowed away overnight.
The only pic I could find is a jenga pack picture where the everything is strapped in for travel. As I said, not fancy, but functional. I actually put the coffee machine on the cabinet on the right. The rolling saddle/ harness rack goes to the back of the trailer (the divider moves over to one side of the other) and a folding table goes in that spot once I’m at the show.
Just for giggles, here’s the other side of the tack area (the trailer is really a2+1 bp, but the +1 has never seen so much as a hoof print) and a pic of everything loaded up and ready to go, except the Corgi, of course. He gets to share the backseat of the truck with a suitcase. If you ever feel overwhelmed by loading up stuff for a show, just remember the combined drivers and you will feel better about your life choices
I talked to my trainer earlier today - Sure! Sounds good…What is it?
Turns out he’s trying to figure out how to rent a frig for a week in Ocala.
We had one like DMK’s, but he left it at the last barn for some dumb reason.
To limit the fire risk with the crock-pot, I replaced the cord with a 15’ 16g cord. No extension cord is needed. I’ll probably do the same thing with this. Maybe a white cord so it’s easy to tell which one you’re plugging in.
We have a fridge (like a half size one) and that is all except for the fans. It is awfully nice to have popsicles and ice boots along with nice cold drinks. Keeps sandwiches and leftovers and cheese safe too. I am advocating for the sealed motor ‘industrial’ fans like I have in my home stalls for our show barn set up. They move so much more air, are so much safer and in the long run, while initially expensive, are more economical (and smaller!) than the box store square fans.
I guess I’m trying to figure out how an air fryer will work with no fridge to store said items to be air fried. Can you give examples of what you’re eating at shows that might require one?
Why rent a fridge? A dorm fridge is pretty easy to move around and store and under $200
Check Facebook marketplace, they sell super cheap on there. I paid 30.00 for my mini fridge.
