I own an OTTSTB from NV (husband horse) and had a wonderful experience. One of my friends called about a TB and was told the 60 day return policy went away last year, but it was still on the website. The person she spoke to relented a bit, but apparently really, really doesn’t want the horse to come back, which is understandable. But with liability, last I’d heard, you can’t ride the horses. The biggest appeal for me of adopting through NV was the ability to have the 60 day trial/return. Otherwise, I’ll just go straight to the track (my TB came from trainer, not a rescue). I also worry about the fate of horses that end up a bad match.
Anyone else dealt with this new policy? Thoughts? Very frustrated if it’s the case - it was one of the biggest reasons to adopt through them.
UPDATE:
So, I pulled up the NV contract on their website - as of March 2015, they don’t do cash refunds on the returns, but rather adoption credits. That’s totally cool - no money back, but if it’s not a good match, they do take the horse back and you can try again. Whew! I also support them wanting to really try to get the match right the first time - so my friend and I are going the NV barn this weekend to shop:) I just really, really think they are the best rescue because of the 60 day trial - ample time to see if it’s a good match or not.
