I think the guy is an idiot. Unfortunate for the horse that he’s seemingly owned by “characters” who really aren’t deserving of his talents.

Link to the video of a not funny, rambling speech (which never thanked the horse, jockey or trainer) by Perry:

I couldn’t agree more. You’d think they would have learned something after the offensive, ridiculous comments that were made and the backlash after loosing the Belmont.

The Lord works in strange ways.

I feel sorry for Art. But I would put up with them and laugh all the way to the bank with my 10%

I thought this was a very good Letter to the Editor in today’s, TDN on the election process. The majority of the “turf writers” eligible to vote most likely saw little to no live races. The pretty much vote on money won and the winner of the Breeders’ Cup.

IMO it should be given to a horse’s body of work not just prize money and the Breeders’ Cup.

Or they abstain which honestly irks me to no end.

Some of the categories reflecting the 248 voter ballots received and the final votes:

Jockey = Javier Castellano, 146; Mike Smith, 44; Jose Ortiz, 41; Florent Geroux, 12; Irad Ortiz Jr., 2; Julien Leparoux, 1. Voter abstentions, 2.

Older dirt female = Beholder, 246; Stellar Wind, 2.

Older dirt male = California Chrome, 248

Owner = Juddmonte Farms, 134; Ken and Sarah Ramsey, 45; Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence, 17; Spendthrift Farm, 17; California Chrome, LLC, 16; Reddam Racing, 4; Fox Hill Farms, 3; John Oxley, 3; WinStar Farm, 2; End Zone Athletics, 1; Midwest Thoroughbreds, 1. Voter abstentions, 5.

2-year-old filly = Champagne Room, 202; New Money Honey, 21; Lady Aurelia, 11; Pretty City Dancer, 5; Shane’s Girlfriend, 3; Abel Tasman, 2; Miss Sky Warrior, 2; Victory to Victory, 1; Voter abstentions, 1.

Turf male = Flintshire, 137; Highland Reel, 76; Tourist, 32; Da Big Hoss, 1. Voter abstentions, 2.

Turf female = Tepin, 225; Found, 11; Queen’s Trust, 7; Lady Eli, 2; Miss Temple City, 2; Catch a Glimpse, 1.

Male sprinter = Drefong, 199; Lord Nelson, 29; A.P. Indian, 20.

Female sprinter = Finest City, 185; Haveyougoneaway, 20; Paulassilverlining, 13; Taris, 12; Carina Mia, 11; Constellation, 2; Lightstream, 1; Songbird, 1. Voter abstentions, 3.

Steeplechase = Rawnaq, 171; Top Striker, 31; Special Skills, 2; Bob Le Beau, 1; Portrade, 1. Voter abstentions, 42.

So you mean to tell me all voters are confident he/she can all select a Male Sprinter but when it comes to Jockey two of them “just can’t choose” and abstain? WTF. Again Turf Male another two voters “just can’t choose” yet everyone is able to vote for Turf Female with confidence?

Not voting in the Steeplechase category is unacceptable in my view. ALL steeplechase races are on free replay and without registration required. ALL of them. So if an eligible writer submits a ballot but is that lazy to skip 'chasing then I don’t know why they have the right to vote.

Update on 2016 Eclipse winner for Steeplechase - Rawnaq

He was going to ship to England February 3 (and be based with Neil Mulholland) before running in the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell on February 26 as a prep race. Afterwhich if he was doing well would’ve started in the Stayers’ Hurdle at Prestbury Park in March.

Had he won that Stayers’ Hurdle he’d win a $500,000 bonus (via the Brown Advisory Iroquois Cheltenham Challenge) having won the G1 Iroquois Hurdle in Nashville last fall.

That’s now dashed as he picked up a soft tissue injury. At the age of 10 he’s not expected to race in 2017 and will most certainly at 11 not go to England. In fact he might not return to racing but that’s still to be determined.

The news really bites :frowning:
