EnGel sheepskin half pads

I’ve been comparison shopping for a sheepskin half pad for a while now and I finally ordered the engel to try out after reading some comments on here. I had previously purchased the beval sheepskin pad with suede and of course have looked at the roma, fleeceworks, and mattes.

I just wanted to say it arrived today and I’m really impressed by the density and quality of the sheepskin. I was leaning hard towards the mattes because I wanted a quality sheepskin and this one’s a keeper! The only downfall is the edges may be a little wispy but that’s ok by me… especially for the price.

All of their products are phenomenal. I even have their seat covers in my car. THAT is luxury

EnGel sheepskin half pads

I just got one of these saddle pads yesterday and they are beautiful! I got the one with the roll on the front and the back in a size large. My saddle is a 17 1/2 and I had tried other cheap half pads before and they were always too small. Well, this one may be too large. How do you tell if they are too big? Thanks!

I just got one yesterday, and while its nice, its not as thick and cushy as my Mattes.

Do you know how to tell if it’s the right size? How much should stick out in front of/behind the saddle? There is a little bit of space between my saddle and the rolls. Is that ok or will it look silly?

Does anyone have a photo they could post of a sheepskin half pad with the front and rear rolls actually on a horse with a saddle. Can’t find one on the net.

Not the greatest pic or best angle… but here’s Gus modeling his Mattes pad: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/qGdVX9T24eZxeZhibGRgcg?authkey=Gv1sRgCNKwztXf08S_Pg&feat=directlink

Here’s another without the baby pad… http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/HceblTpvlzSrNGZi-N0CJg?authkey=Gv1sRgCNKwztXf08S_Pg&feat=directlink (and I think this is the Fleeceworks pad).

I have an Engle pad and the quality is great. They hold up really well. My pad looks as good as it did the day I got it and I use it 6 days a week. There are girls at my barn with other pads that cost a lot more and their pads look dirty and ragged. They do seem to run a tad larger though.

Here is the EnGel pad with my saddle. After trying it last night I think it’s going to be ok. It looks to be a very good quality dense sheepskin.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but does any one know offhand if Engel makes a shim able half pad? Not seeing one online. Thanks!
