I am striking out in my search for the right adult English Mastiff. I already know that what we are looking for is a bit of a tall order, as puppies are always much more available, and we have two particular requirements - the dog must already have been socialized with children, and it must be confident and somewhat protective in nature.
We are experienced with large breeds, including mastiffs, have a very well fenced acre in a semi rural area, and offer a loving family home. With four young children, the child friendly aspect is an absolute must. In kind, I’m understandably hoping to forgo the puppy phase at the moment.
I do keep my eye on rescue listings, but would not be able to risk taking on a dog with gaps in its history, due to the fact that there are young children involved.
We have contacted a number of breeders up here in Canada, but have struck out so far. We realize it’s a tall order, so we’re willing to cast our net wide. Any suggestions or recommendations would be warmly welcomed!
