English riders we have been redeemed by the flipbelt! Now you can carry stuff!

To all my English equestrian brothers and sisters -we have been redeemed by the flipbelt!

I recently joined Runner’s world and got into a discussion about all the stuff I carry when trail running; big phone, big knife, bear spray, inhaler. I run in cargo shorts. One of the posters suggested the flipbelt. I can see it carrying many things while running so I’m intrigued. But you know what it will absolutely REVOLUTIONIZE? English riding breeches -a more pocket-free, skin-tight accouterment I have yet to encounter! We can actually ride without strapping our phones to our boots, people!

Or you could buy a belly band

That way you could carry all your bear gear, a picnic lunch and a bottle of wine.

I have a couple of these:

I use a FlipBelt when I go hiking. It handles my keys, phone, and snack and is very comfortable. I like that it was pockets all around, so the weight can be evenly distributed.

How do you put it on? Do you have to shimmy yourself into it?

Or go old school and wear a fanny pack.

I got something similar, but with a buckle, for hubby to carry energy chews on his runs. He prefers his pockets so I swiped it to carry my phone while riding. It works great and has a really minimal profile.

Hmm … Something like this could be useful for me. I like to take my phone with me when I’m riding out, especially if I’m by myself, but have run into the problem of where to put it. In the winter I can usually stick it in my jacket pocket, but in the summer it usually gets shoved in the waistband of my breeches for lack of anywhere else to put it… Which works okay, until I start doing trot and gallop sets!

its elastic, no more shimmy-ing needed to put it on than what you’d do to pull up your breeches. Have to say I tried it in my last marathon and was disappointed. It definitely wins in the no-bounce category, way better than any other running belt (and /i must confess I have a “hoarder” problem in this area). And i had it really loaded with gu gels. But on the negative side, it was not easy to retrieve stuff. It rotated on my hips depending on which pocket I was digging for. So I found myself often fumbling for the pocket openings. But granted I was trying to do it at a run, whereas a trail rider can just whoa and figure it out.
VERY comfortable, would definitely hold an iphone, and I do recommend it for hiking or slow-paced activity.

OK, I like that last one, the one with a buckle! Added to my wishlist!

Exactly the scenario that came to mind! In addition I’m fitting up Fella and me for some baby eventing and like to use mapmyfitness to keep track.

I have something like this too. I use it when I am trail riding and on hunter paces to stash my phone and map.

Or you could just buy saddle bags that go on an english saddle, I have several, horseloverz sells them, among many others.

Or you can go ahead & tie hard objects to your hips & lower back, which cause very nasty injuries when you land on them. This is why my cell phone is in a pouch strapped to my calf. I’ve already got back arthritis, no fractures please!!

OK I read all the replays, and the BEST thing on this entire thread is…

"He is total garbage! Quick! Hide him on my trailer " the award goes to…Paulaedwina!

Now for a dose of reality: Words could not convey the shock and awe that would result should I ride past anyone with this stretchy clingy thingy, bulging at odd intervals with stuffed stuff, parked squarely over the bulging spare handles I am desperately trying to unload via my new diet/exercise plan. And in designer colors, too.

I think, in the name of decency, I shall pass on body wrappers of any sort.

Random, really all that not related, but I have to relate story - years ago at a horse show I lost my belt carrier for my phone, and all I could dig up in the basement was an old purple fanny pack. I put it on, but instead of putting the bag at the front, I placed toward the back behind my hip.

I had tons of people asking me what this cool new thing was I was wearing. Their faces when I said, “It’s a fanny pack” So, moral of story, apparently fanny packs look TOTALLY different when you actually wear them closer to your fanny.

End of story. But the flipbelt looks cool, I could use that for the gym and my ipod.

Has anyone here ever actually used a belly band to carry stuff? I have three from when I was pregnant (the cheap ones from Target) but they are just wide spandex bands, no pockets or zippers or anything. I am wondering if I could fold or twist them somehow to work.

I use an armband for my phone while riding but it isn’t ideal. I used to have a holder that went on my boot, but my iPhone 6 is too large to fit in it.

This, of course, works just great … Until horsie and I become separated for some reason!

I’ve looked at the “govelope” product. It seems to be a riders fanny pack. It comes in 2 types, one is waterproof. Pricey, but so was replacing my lost iPhone…anyone here have a govelope?

I just wear a fanny pack when trail riding or riding alone during times of the year when I don’t have suitable zippered pockets for my phone, horse treats, etc.

If I forget to take it off and end up meeting up with or running into a non-horsey friend I am teased mercilessly. It cracks me up that is not the breeches/tall boots or half chaps or the even more attractive breeches/paddock boots with tall, mismatched crazy socks look that I get made fun of for - only the fanny pack!

However, it is really great for holding my things, stays put well around my hips and is easy to unzip one handed. So I’ll keep it

Irideon, very sensibly, used to make cargo britches. Imagine: a little pocket right on the thigh, just big enough for an iPhone. Alas, they make’em no more. Why, Irideon, why?
