English saddle pad with pockets

Sorry if this has been asked and answered - search was not cooperating when I tried just now.

I’m looking for a saddle pad with side pockets to carry stuff in (like water, my multi-tool, etc.)

MUST have wither relief. I have a couple now that don’t, and they really impinge on Mr. Blondie’s withers

I really need a dark green, but at this point, any color will do.

The ones I have are half-lined with synthetic fleece, which promptly got all gross & packed down. So I’d prefer just a quilted pad, but the fleece would not be a deal-breaker.

Did I mention it must have wither relief??

Any suggestions?

tack wholesale and horseloverz.com both have pads that fit your description. I have pads from both places and love them. The pads from horseloverz have zippered pockets and are a little on the deep side so makes it harder to reach things that are in the bottom of the pockets. Wholesale tack pockets are velcro and not so deep. One of mine is partially lined with fleece but washes up like new. Both have wither relief.

Have you checked out Toklat? They make quality pads. I have three that can be used with both English and Western saddles, they have a pocket on both sides. Not sure what you mean by wither-relief - the cut back type pads or the ones where the material at the withers is contoured up?

toklat

I’ll second the toklat. Mine looks like brand new, and my mom’s (who rides many many hours per week) doesn’t show much more wear, and must be close to 7 or 8 years old. they wear like iron. I don’t know if it comes w/ wither relief though.

Thirding the Toklat- great pads, last forever!

Yes, by “wither relief” I mean one that curves up in the front.

Will try to check out Toklat - anyone happen to know the name of the pocketed Toklat pads? I’m not finding them.

I did find this: http://www.pri-equine.com/SaddlePads/Trail/T55008.htm

Anyone know anything about the PRI pads? That one has the topline shape that I’m looking for.

An E-Bay offering of Dressage Pad With Pocket: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Dressage-Horse-Saddle-Pad-With-Pockets-Gold-RopeTrim-NY_W0QQitemZ120266540409QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSaddle_Parts_Accessories?hash=item120266540409&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14

Chocomare - that looks like the kind I have (except mine are hunter green) - not enough wither relief in front, sad to say…

But for someone with a mutton-withered horse, they would be awesome (come to think of it, one of our whippers-in, who rides cobs, is the one who found the ones I have now - no wonder!)

Aha… oh well, I tried!

The PRI pads are very nice and reasonable. In fact, I just got one myself. The pocket has velcro which makes for easy open/close. The only problem is the A/P tends to run a bit small. I got a dressage one for my 18" A/P saddle for that reason.

I also have the Toklat pad. I’ve had mine for about 7 years now and it still looks good. Adams Horse Supply carries them:

Bumping this back up since Tack Wholesale is having a BOGO sale on them!

They have what looks to be a nice pocket pad. I started recently riding mostly in my english saddles and took my Justin cantle/saddle bag and sliced the cantle portion off the side bags, tied their d rings to my saddle d rings and bingo, cordura saddle bags that are actually big enough to put something in. Water bottle goes in one, lead rope in t’other, still have room for some granola bars, and still have my front drings left. I wanted to get some pads like natl bridle has but couldnt justify it since I’d just gotten 8 “free” pads with my HorseFroogle order for my Wintec 2000AP.

Our hunt bought a bunch of the pads from Tackwholesale.com - nice pads, sort of medium thickness even with the top half fleece - good pockets. They look nice & sturdy, and the gold rope trim add a nice touch.

I wish they had a bit more wither relief, though.

I think I’m going to try one from National Bridles, too, and see how that is. I like the fact that there’s no fleece lining. I find that the fake fleece gets matted & stays dirty.

Toklat and PRI are miles apart on quality. If you want a really heavy duty will last YEARS pad go with Toklat. You can custom order your color with a high wither.

Mine is 12 years old and still going…

I’m sorry - we just relaunched our corporate intranet, and my brain is overloaded…

Where can I order the Toklat pads with pockets?

I have two of the Toklat pads. I’ve had both for several years - they hold up great! I got mine at State Line Tack before they were bought out by Horse.com. Adams Horse Supply seems to be the only one selling them now…

Thanks, paintlady - do you happen to know which kind of fleece your pads have? I have had no luck with fleece-lined pads. The pad always mats and gets nasty really quickly.

My two have the Coolback Fleece. It was the only style offered by State Line Tack (where I got them several years ago - they no longer carry them). I really don’t have problems with it getting matted or nasty. I do wash my pads pretty regularly though… cold water and air dry.

I’ve seen the Woolback style at my local tack store. It appears much nicer. Personally, this is the one I’d choose even though I haven’t “tested” it.

you can order off the Toklat website or any store that carries Toklat products can order your pad for you.

I have coolback and woolback and they are both great.

I know this is not what you were asking about, but, perhaps it would be an idea for you. No worry about fleece or wither rubs.

I’ve had that English cantle pack on my wishlist for ages. :stuck_out_tongue:
