For some reason when I type a reply or post a topic, I cannot do paragraph breaks because the Enter key doesn’t seem to work. I only have this problem on COTH. Any ideas on why this is happening?
What browser/system are you using?
Windows 7
This is a known issue in IE 10. There is no solution and the COTH dev group cannot reproduce the error.
Your best bet is to either go back to IE 9, which doesn’t seem to have the issue, or use Firefox or Chrome.

ReSomething discovered a work-around for this problem.
If you look above the reply window (and this works in quick reply and also the “go advanced” reply) you’ll see a button with a little black A, a slash, and a bigger, underlined blue A. If you hover over the button, the tool tip will say “switch editor to WYSIWYG mode.”
If you click that button, the enter key will work in IE with compatibility mode “off” (torn paper in the address bar grey, no weird layout issues occurring.) You will have to do it EVERY time you reply, but you WILL be able to use the enter key in your replies if you have it clicked.

For those experiencing this issue, does switching to the WYSIWYG editor via your Settings panel (click from the left side of the blue bar near the top of the page, then General Settings, Miscellaneous Options) make the fix “hold” or do you still have to select it for each reply you make?

I’ve been having the enter key trouble for a while now. I just looked under General Settings, Miscellaneous Options and found that it was already set on WYSIWYG editor. I clicked to save it there and came back here and it did not hold.
I still had to click the a/A button to use the enter key in this reply. Great to know how to do that though. Many thanks to Simkie and Resomething!
Mod 1, you may want to sticky this, as it sounds like IE 9 is starting to automatically update to 10. As that happens, a LOT of people will be asking this question.
Yes, I just started having this problem about 2 days ago and I have not intentionally upgraded to IE10. VERY frustrating and it does not happen in any other BB’s. Why is COTH the only place with this problem?
After I left, I did some thinking and realised there is also a solution right in Exploder and that is the Compatibility View button on the address bar of the browser itself. Once clicked, it seems to remain set for the site.
And by clicking that, I can now make paragraphs!!!
Can anyone advise about IE 11? its not recognizing my key stroks and I have to hit them multiple times…so far only this board! frustrated!!
In IE11, it’s like the computer has to pause After. Every. Letter. Hitting the key several times doesn’t help, you just have to wait out the pause. Going to the compatibility mode helps, but it screws up the formatting of the page, so I don’t like changing to that mode.
When on my PC, I have to switch to Firefox if I want to reply to something because the pausing is such a pain.
