Is there a difference between EPSM and PPSM, and what is the difference?
Thanks in advance.

No. Different terms for a condition in different breeds (possibly due to the condition presenting a bit differently due to different body types) . This is what I have been told. For example, in heavier breeds (drafts, warmbloods) it is referred to as EPSM. In lighter breeds (quarter horses) it is referred to as PSSM. But I am sure someone will post something completely different–because as we know in horses, you ask three different people, and you get four different answers!
thankyou 2boys
you must be spot on right as no one has disagreed :lol:
Well, that’s a first!:eek::winkgrin:
Here is a link the U of Minnesota’s website on muscle disorders.
Dr Valberg is one of the leading researchers on the subject. In the FAQs on PSSM, she does mention that frequently EPSM and a few other acronyms are used synonomously with PSSM. It’s also mentioned that tying up in racing breeds is generally due to RER, as opposed to PSSM.

I was just going to post this…
I second going to this site for info.
thankyou
I’ve had a look at the site, I need to spend more time on it for sure.
It looks very informative
Yes, the spelling :winkgrin: I also find Dr. Valberg’s research very helpful
Dr Beth Valentine at OSU first discovered the cause (and treatment) for “Monday Morning Disease” that killed so many draft horses. Her research is phenomenal. She is the reason my Andalusian is still alive — we didn’t do the biopsy—just started feeling many cups of oil/day. He transformed!
